Sydney electronic guardian angel Soul Wun brings us a ‘Beautiful Noise In My Head’ for this week’s off-the-cuff, friend-powered Wild One.

Directed by Soul Wun’s (a.k.a. Blake Carthew’s) friends and repeat rage offenders Nikola Jokanovic and Will Vallender, the creation of ‘Beautiful Noise In My Head’ was both collaborative and spontaneous. “We had our actors and locations, but we didn't know exactly how it'd all unfold, or what each person would bring to the piece,” explains co-director Nikola. “We wanted to show a group of people who are 'connected' to each other, without knowing it, by their love of music and movement. I like how Blake himself drifts through the clip, only in the background - like a guardian angel, which is kind of what we were getting at with each character having the trinket on their bedside table.”

“I have been good mates with Blake (Soul Wun) and have been stoked to watch his music grow and change over the years” says Will. “It has always united our mate group, going to his gigs or other raves. I guess we wanted to touch on this idea of music bridging the gap between people even if they don’t know it at first. It’s pretty special at dance music events or raves people let loose and aren’t afraid to be themselves, we tried to explore this with the characters.”

“Having worked with Will on all previous works, we have this underlying creative symbiosis, says Soul Wun. “He understands my mind and struggles and the intention behind my music and thus the videos always come about quite easily. Getting Nikola onboard made so much sense as I knew they had worked together before and wanted to enable the dormant collaborative genius within.”

For Soul Wun, music making has always been about coping and escapism. “I think Will and Nikola understand that so much. I felt the most incredible connection to their creative minds in the process.”

“Naively, at the last minute, I bought a bunch of expired film” @uncertain___ pays the ultimate price for a bargain-bin gamble.

Mamiya RB67, Canon A-1, a Metz flash and a hard-earned lesson. Will turns over the only discernible exposures from a week spent slinking around Japan’s cultural backwaters… as if these images weren’t top-shelf. Go figure!

A video made by my friend Will, have a look at his work.
@uncertain___

It’s been a long time since I've put out any solo music, and even longer since I’ve peaced together an EP. ‘2020-23’ is an EP, a short collection of songs made in that time period. Of all the music I made in those three years that was either deleted or sentenced to life in the dark depths of my hard drive these tracks were the exception. All are special to me and now serve as somewhat of a time machine into my older sound, and a now somewhat nostalgic dance music culture.

Three original tacks.
One remix.

Sound Design: @who.is.arcadia

Rory is showcasing his new work "Bushranger Blue" for @thepoolcollective at @seventhgallery this Thursday, July 4th. Go check it out, will be something special.

Rory shares his wisdom on the Process of Creating Art and at times the turbulent nature it can have on your sense of self. Hope it means something to you.

Massive thank you to @who.is.arcadia for the sound design, helping me revive the project when my computer crashed. Was very close to being abandoned.

Edit - @connorlee444 “left over lunch”. Pretty much a bunch of B grade footage that was on my hard drive and wasn’t sure what to do with it.

Sumbawa, Lombok and Bali -Indonesia, 2022. I tried to bring my video camera along everytime i went to take some stills on this trip. Its a lot more clunky and way more intimidating when its pointed at the subject but really enjoyed how it slows down the process.
