Andy Akiho, born in 1979 in Columbia, South Carolina, is a “trailblazing”(Los Angeles Times) Pulitzer Prize finalist and seven-time GRAMMY®-nominated composer whose bold works unravel intricate and unexpected patterns while surpassing preconceived boundaries of classical music. Called “increasingly in-demand” by The New York Times, Akiho has earned international acclaim for his large-scale works that emphasize the natural theatricality of live performance. He is the only composer to be nominated for a GRAMMY® in the Best Contemporary Classical Composition category in 2022,2023, and 2024. by @referencerecordings

Announcing American Triad! Pianist Daniel Glover, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and conductor John McLaughlin Williams honor the music of three composers whose intertwined relationship was one of respect, admiration, and camaraderie: Felix Borowski, Ernest Bloch, and Beryl Rubinstein.

Pre-save and pre-order today: listn.fm/americantriad [in bio]

Borowski and Bloch immigrated to the United States and became citizens, while Rubinstein was born in Athens, Georgia. “Writing a piano concerto had been one of my dreams for a long time. As a pianist, I’ve had the privilege of performing many of the great concertos in the repertoire, so naturally I always hoped that one day I would write one of my own. The story of Emporium, however, began in a very personal way. The melody that would eventually become the opening theme first came to me the night before Adriana and Andrea’s eighth birthday, when I was improvising at the piano. The next day, I played it for them as their birthday present. At that point, it was simply a melody, a musical gift from a father to his daughters. … As the piece developed, I realized that I wasn’t just writing a piano concerto. I was imagining Emporium as a kind of magical, imaginary place for my daughters, a place where they could discover beautiful things from different cultures, traditions, and even beyond this world. Not only beautiful objects, but also beautiful ideas, emotions, cultures, and spiritual experiences. That is where the title Emporium came from. In many ways, the concerto is a reflection of curiosity, love, and the endless possibilities of imagination.” — Aldo López-Gavilán in a must-read interview about “Emporium” in the November/December issue of Fanfare! by @referencerecordings

For Your GRAMMY Consideration 🏆:

“Honeyball” for Best Contemporary Classical Composition and “Keys to the Beautiful Game” for Best Classical Compendium and Best Engineered Album, Classical

“Honeyball” is my tribute to Nettie Honeyball, who founded the first known women’s soccer team in 1895 when nobody wanted her to. I had an absolute blast writing it for @nadiashpachenko and soccer cleats.

GRAMMY voting members, give it a listen! Link to “Honeyball” in bio.
