We had an incredible day today, celebrating the holidays with @refugeechildrencenter . We were able to get together in their new garden filled with fruits and vegetables, which has been a labor of love from their families this year. Please continue supporting @refugeechildrencenter , as they need our support more than ever.Thank you to everyone who kept us fed, @lifeforcekitchen @canyoncoffee @bakers.bench and @gooeycenterbakery . Honoring the Memory of Migrant ChildrenThis week, we gathered to create a community altar in memory of children who lost their lives while migrating in search of safety and family reunification. Rooted in Día de los Muertos and Indigenous remembrance traditions, our altar became a sacred space for collective grief, healing, and hope.Together, we spoke their names aloud, placed their photos, and called for a more humane immigration process that allows safe passage and reunification. Ateendess were also invited to place a photo of their loved ones. Nuestros asistentes también fueron invitados a poner una foto de sus seres queridos en el altar. Last night, we had the honor of attending Common Ground Dinner: Celebrating Women, Storytelling, and Food at the @skirball_la —an inspiring evening hosted by @kcrwgoodfood host Evan Kleiman @kcrwevan and @lisakyunggross, founder of @leagueofkitchens Our very own Executive Director shared her powerful journey as an unaccompanied minor, alongside a cherished family mole rojo recipe passed down from her grandmother to her mother, and now to her. Attendees had the opportunity to taste this deeply meaningful dish. Through food and storytelling, she reflected on ancestral wisdom, migration, and the love that continues the work being done at the Refugee Children Center.In a time when division is often amplified, Common Ground reminded us of the healing power of shared meals and human connection. As the Skirball beautifully puts it, the event is about “bringing people together around the expansive possibilities of shared human experiences.”The dinner took place in conjunction with the Common Ground exhibit—a powerful, community-activated artwork that celebrates American pluralism. Created by Los Angeles-based artist Adam Silverman, the project involved collecting clay, water, and wood ash from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the five U.S. territories. These materials were transformed into 244 ceramic objects—tableware and ceremonial vessels—that are currently on view at the Skirball.We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to participate in this evening of storytelling, sisterhood, and resistance—united through food, memory, and culture. A message of gratitude from our Local Hero Mayra Medina-Núñez in Los Angeles of @refugeechildrencenter:"We are grateful to have received this funding from GO Campaign. These past couple of years have been extremely difficult for our children and families, as North Hills continues to be heavily targeted by ICE enforcement and parents' work hours have decreased. As it is, our children and families already experience increased food insecurity in the summer months when school is not in session. By providing these culturally relevant meals (since June 15, 2026), we hope to alleviate food insecurity and bring a bit of joy — because food does heal. We are incredibly happy and proud to congratulate our Refugee Children Center Class of 2026 graduates!💛🧡From local high schools, undergraduate programs, especially UCLA, and graduate programs, especially California State University, Northridge, these graduates dedicated their fieldwork, internships, and countless hours to the growth of the Refugee Children Center and the families we serve. What an honor to facilitate an @calibu.healing soundbath for the @refugeechildrencenter staff and administration today 🙏🏽🫶🏽 Calibu is founded on 3 initiatives:•Provide alternative healing modalities that support people’s consciousness, nervous system, healing and well-being… body-mind-soul.•Scholarship those who cannot afford services.•Engage in community outreach to bring tools & awareness to others, especially youth & students.What a pleasure to hold space for such beautiful people, who foster belonging and community for refugee children and families navigating immigration. Our Mother’s Day celebration was garden and tea party style, filled with flowers, joy, and community. 🌸At RCC, these moments are deeply meaningful because they remind us what community can look and feel like when we gather with care and love. Earlier in May, we had the opportunity to join Raíces Fuertes Youth, in collaboration with Nature for All, for a visit to Santa Cruz Island on Chumash territory. Throughout the day, youth hiked the island, learned about its ecosystems and wildlife, and kayaked along the coast where they explored caves and experienced the powerful ocean winds together🙌🏻💙It as a great opportunity for youth to connect with their indigenous roots. It was a meaningful day of connection with nature, culture, and one another. by @refugeechildrencenter

For us at the Refugee Children Center, this day holds deep meaning. Our work is rooted in the stories, sacrifices, and dreams of mothers who continue to nurture hope across borders and generations.From moments of healing and community to spaces like Jardín Sin Fronteras, our work has been profoundly shaped by moms whose courage and tenderness guide us forward. We are endlessly grateful to walk alongside women who remind us that care is transformative, collective, and powerful.
