Exhibition: AAIP (Artists as Independent Publishers) 12–15 October 2026 · Sint Lucas Antwerp Showroom

AAIP is an international exhibition project that connects art schools from different countries through the artist’s book and artistic publishing. Initiated at Hochschule für Künste Bremen, the project travels between its partner institutions. In 2026, the exhibition brings together work by students from six art schools: Hochschule für Künste Bremen, HfG Offenbach, Kunsthochschule Kassel, Sint Lucas Antwerp, Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien and Durban University of Technology in South Africa.

From graphic design, photography and visual art to experimental printing, text and sculptural book objects, the works challenge our understanding of what a book can be. Some embrace its traditional form, while others push its boundaries through unexpected materials, formats and spatial experiences.

More than a finished product, the artists’ book becomes a way of thinking, making and communicating — giving artists the freedom to shape their own images, texts, materials, formats and editions.

@designmuseumdanmark I visited an outstanding exhibition of Japanese graphic design, where iconic posters trace Japan’s cultural and political history from the 1950s to today.

It begins with Takashi Kono’s powerful Sheltered Weaklings (1953), designed in response to the 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty. Kono wanted to warn his fellow Japanese against passively following the “big American fish”. The poster questions the price of security and the loss of independence in the post-war era.

More than 70 years later, its message still resonates. A reminder that the strongest graphic design doesn’t just reflect its time — it continues to challenge ours.

Stepping into “COME HELL OR HIGH WATER” by @superflexstudio at @arkenmuseum feels like entering a museum after the sea has claimed it. Flooded galleries, blue light, sandbags and an ark in the making invite us to imagine a future where art isn’t just for people, but for all species. A powerful exhibition that turns climate anxiety into imagination, action and coexistence.
