I started riding horses at 8 years old.

I was part of a programme that was trying to attract older kids to couples that were considering adoption.

I was thrown into all kinds of activities from brownies, to ballroom dancing, to tap dancing, to gymnastics, all with the goal to get me adopted.

It was exhausting - photo shoots for adoption magazines, dancing for couples and not getting a call back, it’s such a strange process to have to go through over and over again at such a young age.

But I learned something powerful at a young age - to never fall for the lie that you have to perform in order to be preferred.

I was very intentional even as a child to be in control of who I wanted to be, so I quit all the clubs except horse riding - that’s where I was free, with a clear head, completely myself.

So when I entered the corporate world, one of the first things a sponsor said to me was, our process is not going to work on you.

I responded, “what do you mean?”.

He said, “we hire insecure overachievers over here, and you know exactly who you are - that might be a problem”.

“So what does that mean!” I asked, pretty confused.

He ended with, “it means that we will either break it out of you or you will leave.

I’m glad to say nothing was broken - I left, because I had that little 8-year-old to remind me exactly who I was.

I’ve always been the one to go against the grain. I saved up to go horse riding and golf lessons every week when I was in university - it was important that I had this uninterrupted time to spend on my own in a season where we are all trying to figure out who we are.

I lived off campus because for me, university was my only opportunity to escape the cards that I had been dealt in life, I was not there for friends - I was there to set the foundation for my future and that strategy worked out really well for me.

I learned at a young age that having the ability to carve out moments and seasons of solitude is essential for spiritual sustenance. These are the moments that God fills me with all the inspiration, wisdom and capacity to do all that I do and I’m grateful for this very powerful lesson that’s kept me through the hardest of seasons 💛 by @reginaquartey_

Growing up in foster care was my crash course in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

I was always the only black girl in the room and often felt very isolated. Not because I looked different. Because I wasn’t included.

Until I met the Foges. A white, middle class family from the countryside who taught me you don’t need training or a programme to show genuine love to someone who doesn’t look like you.

They took me to every family event and introduced me as their daughter. They learned to do my hair. They bought me clothes outside the carer budget because I had none. They gave me my own room, moved me to the same school as their birth children, waited to eat supper until I got home from clubs. I was in every family photo, even the official ones.

They started the process to adopt me. My foster mother stopped it herself. She said she didn’t want to rob me of something she could never give me: my identity. My Nigerian culture, being a black woman, was my birth mother’s one request when I entered care: that I never lose it. I would have been happy with this family. But I wouldn’t have been me.

I struggle with Black History Month every year. Part of me wants to stay quiet and just do my job. But moments like this remind me it’s worth celebrating, and if a middle aged white woman from Surrey could hold my identity to such a high standard, then so should I.

Diversity, equity, inclusion. And one more: belonging.

Welcomed or not, included or not, we find belonging in our communities.

As we head into a heavy October with some tragedies of race this year still affecting us, let’s not be pressed into silence. Let’s lift our heads and celebrate the core of who we are ❤️ by @reginaquartey_

Mothers … I need you to come to the very front!

Are we not tired, forever?! 😂

I guess we are all trying our best right?

My husband took the kids this morning and I think he could tell I was on the brink of explosion 😅

I do a lot, and I struggle to look cute while doing the lot because that is absolutely exhausting. So you mean to tell me I have to get myself ready and then two other human beings? Every. Single. Day.

I have to go to board meetings and parents evening on the same day on the opposite sides of town?!

Then I have to feed them, constantly?

Then my board - I have to think for them, anticipate their next steps, set their strategies across different countries 🙃

And guys, I actually cook 3-4 times a week and clean my own bathrooms, am I mad or is that normal?

Oh and the kids have activities - Tennis, swimming, jujitsu and Heidi’s going to start ballet, so what happens to my imaginary Pilates life that I struggle to live 👀

But honestly, I wouldn’t change it. It’s wild, it’s hectic, but it’s purpose.

Motherhood, wife life, business woman, corporate baddie, lecturer, friend, daughter, sister…

It’s really hard. Some seasons I’m laser focused on my family, other seasons I’m struggling to be a boss at work and plan out my son’s summer activities, other seasons - my health sets the pace.

All we can do is try, trust God and drink some tea 😅

Any tips for an overstimulated mummy over here?! by @reginaquartey_

Blessings on blessings.

Celebrating my special little boy turning 5 🥹

I honestly love planning and hosting parties and events. Not to show off and not because they are fun but because hosting and serving is a big part of ministry, bringing our community old and new together is such a privilege.

I’m so grateful to God for the gift of life ❤️

Ad | Honestly? I used to dread Monday mornings.

I’m a consultant, a coach, a founder, a lecturer and a speaker. For a long time, managing the admin across all of those felt like a full time job on its own. I was switching between tools constantly, still missing things, still dropping balls.

We’re in the era of the portfolio career and I needed one platform that could manage all of it for me.

HighLevel does that. Every client message, whether it’s a DM, a text or an email, lands in one inbox no matter which part of my business it’s coming from. My follow-ups and booking workflows run automatically. The operational side keeps moving even when I’m in back to back meetings or on stage somewhere.

If you’re juggling multiple interests and the admin layer is getting heavy, this is honestly the tool I wish I’d found sooner. Try it free for 14 days, link in bio.
