POSTS STORIES REELS

In October last year I actually wrote the statement - I dream of meeting Michelle Obama one day. Less than 8 months later, this happens.
While she was so smooth and articulate, I was star struck, literally. There was zero confidence and I was a fumbling mess. I walked in and she said “hey Regan, how you doing babe?”

And obviously I was like an emotionally overwhelmed child who almost cried and I kept saying thank you 🤦‍♀️ and I think after the 4-5th thank you I may have bowed as I was leaving 🤷‍♀️ so thank you @michelleobama for being so graceful and amazing! And thank you to @clintmccully for making my dream become a reality. by @regsbarker

Build a system for sales #sales #businessgrowth #salestransformation #revenuegrowth #coldcalling by @regsbarker

I’ve been chasing my own tail the last few weeks and the good habits have started to slip.

But instead of getting down on myself or pointing blame, there is a question ask myself to help ground myself in what I’m doing:

💡 How am I complicit in not getting what I say I want? 💡

Complicit is a deliberate word. It implies I am not a passive victim of circumstance. It implies I am an active participant in the outcome I am choosing.

That is the uncomfortable part because when I look honestly at the moments where I drift from what I said I wanted, it is rarely random.

The drift has a direction. It moves consistently toward comfort, toward the known, toward the version of my life that requires the least change. Which tells me something about what I actually want, underneath the stated intention.

I think most of us are carrying two desires at the same time. The desire for the outcome, and the desire not to be fundamentally disrupted by the pursuit of it.

We want the result without becoming the person the result requires.

There is also something else.

The stated goal gives us an identity before we have earned it. For me that identity lands with:
• “I am someone who runs marathons.”
• “I am someone who builds great businesses.”
• “I am someone who leads well under pressure.”

The declaration feels like progress but it’s ultimately not true yet… And in a strange way, it partially satisfies the need that was driving the goal in the first place. Which makes the actual behaviour feel less urgent.

This is not weakness in me or anyone for that matter. It is just how we are wired. The mind does not distinguish cleanly between imagining something and doing it.

But when I ask that specific question it cuts through.

It asks me to stop narrating my intentions and start examining my choices. Not with judgment, but with honesty. Where exactly am I creating the conditions for this not to happen?

Once I see it clearly, I can’t really pretend otherwise. by @regsbarker

Anytime I write a proposal, I picture this.
A CFO. Early morning. Coffee in hand. Reading alone before the day begins.
No one is selling to them. It’s just them and the document.
By this point, weeks of conversations, workshops and pricing discussions have already happened. A significant investment before a single dollar is won.
And yet most proposals still open with a paragraph about the seller.
Who we are. What we do. How long we’ve been around.
That CFO isn’t looking for your origin story.
They’re asking four things:
→ Do you actually understand my problem?
→ Can I justify this investment internally?
→ Does it reduce risk and create measurable return?
→ Can I defend this in front of the board?
If page one doesn’t answer those, the rest becomes hard to read.
So I write backwards from that moment.
Open with their current state in precise language. Articulate where they’re trying to get to. Make the commercial impact explicit. Acknowledge the cost of doing nothing.
Because they’re not buying a document.
They’re committing money, time and internal resources to something that will affect their business.
The only story that matters at 7am with a coffee is the buyer’s.
Proposals don’t fail because the solution is wrong.
They fail because the story is centred on the wrong person. by @regsbarker
