Alright it’s time to talk about Aaron Rodgers. Here’s some of the best evidence we could find on Achilles healing after rupture and repair.

Admittedly, it’s a little gray, but we want to hear your thoughts below and get a discussion going on this accelerated rehab.

Reconsidering Rehab: We already posted about reconsidering the notion of shoulder impingement so why not discuss hip impingement? While this post isn't challenging the pathoanatomical reasoning, it is challenging the way we refer to hip impingement. We want to hear your thoughts so make sure to comment below!

Reconsidering Rehab: What are your thoughts on horizontal hop tests for RTP testing? Do you have access to the equipment necessary to implement vertical hop testing with your post op athletes? Let us know your thoughts below.

Clinical thought: The home program question being the first three questions for follow up visits, is only validates the importance.

Business lesson: Advisory roles only mean something if the ideas are transferred though action, not clinical discussion.

Consuming: “Facades” was originally written for Koyaanisqatsi and got cut from the film, which might be the best outtake in film music history.

Research: Read past the abstract on this one, since the results table shows both conditions improved every strength measure and the tendon change was about a tenth of a millimeter.

Follow @mcinneswatson : Pair his plyo content with your return-to-sport progressions and you’ll start spotting the gaps in your own.

Knee course: Seven M2M grads coming back for a course tells me more about the program than any feedback survey could. #rehabcode by @rehab_code

Great news! I’ve accepted a clinical excellence advisor role with the PRO Performance Therapy Group. This means I’ll make a flight out to San Jose a few more times in the next year. I’m pumped to be able to bring my clinical experience and teaching to this hard hard-working, humble group of practitioners! Big shout out to @ross.nakaji for his company’s vision and seeking excellence within his staff. Also, a big thank you too @thesportsdpt for putting me on Ross‘s radar. #rehabcode @thepptg @losgatosorthosportstherapy by @rehab_code

A quick snapshot of a recent treatment I completed with my patient. The functional asterisk was pain with sitting but was worse when he rounded in that position . instead of addressing manual therapy in prone, I decided to use a more active approach. Combining mobilisation with active movement provided the best relief. I implemented a home program that consisted of a 2 inch mobility band at the cranial level as he rounded his back and then proceeded just with a cat and camel stretch series. #rehabcode by @rehab_code

The pivot points are the significant influencers that change your career. Sometimes you get the job, but I’ve also not gotten the job and that was the best decision for me. Clinical thought: Most of the change you gain after a mobilization is neurophysiological, so retest the functional task, not just the segmental spring, to know if it worked.

Business lesson: The NBA schedule was someone else’s calendar.Recently it felt very similar, but at least it’s my own doing.

Consuming: Gospodinov’s minotaur isn’t a monster at all. He writes it as a lonely, abandoned child, which reframes the whole myth.

Research: If you want to see these strategies in your own patients, test overhead reach and stairs. With the heightened extension tone during this tasks it could warrant more exploration. Where there is smoke, there is likely fire.

Adductor magnus management in patients with chronic knee pain and quadriceps arthrogenic muscle inhibition (AMI).

Reason 1: dynamic valgus is a quad problem until proven otherwise.

During a step down, the quad has to control knee flexion eccentrically. When it cannot, the knee moves medially and the femur adducts and internally rotates as the patient shifts load into the adductors. The same thing happens on the way up, when the quad cannot produce enough concentric torque to extend the knee from a flexed position. The valgus you see is often the visible result of that compensation, not the main impairment. Hip abductor work alone will not fix a mechanism that starts at the quad.

Reason 2: the adductor magnus works as a pseudo knee extender.

The ischiocondylar portion of the magnus runs from the ischial tuberosity to the adductor tubercle and acts as a hip extensor. Its hip extension moment arm increases with hip flexion, so it has the most leverage at the bottom of a squat and on the first part of a stair ascent. With the foot fixed, hip extension pulls the femur posteriorly over the tibia and extends the knee indirectly. The patient finishes the task, the quad avoids the load, and the inhibition goes unchallenged.

Why treat it: lowering magnus tone and guarding does not restore quad function on its own. It removes the compensatory strategy so the quad has to accept load in the session that follows. Pair it right away with quad-biased loading where the knee tracks over the foot and the hip does not drive the movement. Use step downs with a controlled eccentric, split squats with a vertical trunk, and isometrics at mid-range knee flexion before progressing.
