There are many factors that play into strength and power output, such as the brain’s ability to recruit motor units, the synchronization of muscle fibers, tendon insertion, the strength potential of the muscles, and the stiffness of the musculotendinous unit.

A good rule of thumb is this: if you have a “springy” athlete, they should spend a significant portion of their time getting stronger. If you have a strong athlete, they should devote significant resources to becoming springier. That’s not to say you should ignore either quality, but one of the fundamentals of strength and conditioning is attacking the lowest-hanging fruit, the areas with the highest return on investment.

Featuring an awesome client, Reid!
