Rekombinant is the solo project of Rome based composer and sound artist Alfonso Montagnese. Blending electroacoustic composition, analogue electronics, magnetic tape and sound design, his work explores the physical qualities of sound, embracing imperfection, transformation and degradation as expressive compositional tools.

Borrowing its title from the physical principle of parity symmetry, the album is less interested in scientific theory than in the possibility that an identity may endure even after profound change. Sound is treated as matter, it is stretched, reflected, saturated, compressed and displaced, yet never entirely separated from its origin.

Magnetic tape is the medium through which this question unfolds. Magnetic tape does not preserve sound faithfully, it reshapes the sound. It compresses, saturates, colours and gradually erodes it, producing not a copy but another state of the same material. Every recording becomes both document and transformation.

Most of the instruments used throughout the album were selected from more recent generations of electronic equipment compared to previous works. Their character is not defined by nostalgia, but by their functional and sonic qualities: instruments chosen for how they behave under pressure.
The album consists of fourteen compositions, each one approaching sound as a material in continuous state of alteration and was conceived within what feels like a new Middle Ages, one that is still unfolding. An era marked by increasing fragmentation, uncertainty and the erosion of shared cultural references. The music does not illustrate this condition; it absorbs and inhabits it.

“Digital Landscape” explores the subtle relationship between digital technology and human emotion.
In a world increasingly shaped by immaterial signals, algorithms and synthetic textures, the digital can easily appear distant, cold or detached from the physical experience of being human. Yet technology, when placed in the hands of an artist, can reveal another dimension.
Through electronic textures, layered sounds and a shared creative process, Digital Landscape moves through a space where the synthetic and the human are not necessarily opposites. Digital tools become capable of carrying warmth, tension, intimacy and something less tangible — perhaps even something emotional.

Rekombinant is the solo project of Alfonso Montagnese (based in Rome).
Working at the intersection of electroacoustic composition, sound design and experimental electronic music, Rekombinant explores the physical qualities of sound through a collection of electronic instruments combined with magnetic tape and analogue processing.

Rather than treating these technologies as nostalgic artefacts, the project embraces their imperfections as compositional material, where saturation, instability and degradation become expressive tools.

Alongside his personal work, Alfonso has composed music for films, short films, visual art, installations and spoken-word projects, developing a practice in which sound is conceived as an environment capable of interacting with other artistic languages.

Andor Sanderson is a Hungarian composer and producer working at the intersection of modern classical, ambient and cinematic music. His work combines acoustic piano, electronic textures and atmospheric soundscapes, exploring themes of nature, memory and emotion.

His music has been presented internationally, including performances in Italy (Milan, Lecce and Pordenone) as well as immersive audiovisual projects in Hungary in the last years. Through these experiences, Sanderson explores music as an environment where sound, image and emotion can become one.

Soundscapes that inhabit visual art.

I have always been drawn to composing soundscapes that do not merely accompany visual artworks, but quietly complete them — inhabiting their spaces, extending their gestures, and shaping the way they are perceived over time.

This piece, created for the works of @gianni_lucchesi_ , is one such example. As in our previous collaborations, the sound is conceived as a subtle presence: not illustrative, not dominant, but deeply intertwined with the visual language of the works themselves.

For me, these collaborations are not about adding sound to images, but about allowing sound and image to coexist — listening to what the artwork already suggests, and giving it room to breathe. by @rekombinant
