WHAT IF THE SPHINX WASN’T THE FIRST SACRED LION OF AFRICA? 🦁🌙

Africa. 4200 BCE.

Before the Great Sphinx rose upon the Giza Plateau, before the Pharaohs ruled a united Egypt, ancient peoples lived across a greener Sahara.

And in the mythology of CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, they worshipped a goddess whose origins reached thousands of years deeper into Africa’s forgotten past.

TANIT. THE FIRST MOTHER. THE LIONESS OF AFRICA.

Born of the ancient spiritual traditions of the Green Sahara, her worship spread eastward through North Africa towards the fertile Nile Valley.

Her priestesses carried sacred knowledge, performed rituals beneath the moon and raised sanctuaries to the divine Lioness who protected life, fertility and the balance of creation.

By 4200 BCE, our mythology places her lion cult among the earliest great religious traditions of prehistoric Africa.

And here begins the mystery.

Thousands of years later, Egypt would carve the monumental Great Sphinx of Giza, a lion-bodied guardian whose origins and symbolism continue to fascinate the world.

But what if the idea of the sacred lion had a much older African history?

What if the spiritual traditions of the Green Sahara influenced the religious imagination of the Nile?

In CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, Tanit was worshipped long before Carthage existed, before Phoenician ships crossed the Mediterranean, and before the Egyptian kingdoms reached their greatness.

Her name would travel. Her image would change. Civilisations would rise and fall.

BUT THE LIONESS WOULD ENDURE.

The Green Sahara was real. Ancient African lion symbolism is real. Our prehistoric Tanit cult and its connection to the Sphinx belong to the mythology we are creating.

COULD THE SPHINX PRESERVE AN ECHO OF AFRICA’S FORGOTTEN LION CULTS?

🦁 PRAISE THE MOTHER.

ASTARTE - LOVE WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE WEAK.

Before Aphrodite.
Before Venus.

There was the goddess Astarte.

Born from the ancient religious world of Canaan and carried westward by the Phoenicians, Astarte endured in Carthage as a goddess of sexual love, fertility, sovereignty—and war.

She was desire with a sword in her hand.

Passion without submission.

The power to create life—and the fury to destroy those who threatened it.

Men marched beneath the protection of gods.

Astarte needed no man to make her terrible.

In the temples of Carthage, incense rose before her. Doves crossed her sanctuary. Priestesses brought flowers, perfume and sacred offerings to her altar.

But none mistook beauty for weakness.

For the same goddess who awakened desire could awaken war.

In the world of CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, Astarte is no forgotten name carved into ancient stone.

She remembers what she was.

And when the old gods begin to stir, love, fertility and war once again belong to the same divine hand.

ASTARTE.

Goddess of passion.
Goddess of life.
Goddess of war.

IN CARTHAGE, THE MOTHER REIGNED.
BOW TO THE DIVINE FEMININE.

Before the Roman legions brought fire to her temples, before her sacred stones were broken and her people carried into slavery, Carthage was alive.

And at the heart of her civilisation stood the worship of an extraordinary goddess.

TANIT. THE GREAT MOTHER OF CARTHAGE.

Goddess of fertility, protection and life. A divine presence whose sacred symbol endured across the ancient Punic world.

For generations, her worshippers raised sanctuaries, offered prayers and entrusted their families, their children and their city’s future to her protection.

In CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, her story reaches much further into the past.

From the fertile landscapes of the Green Sahara, through the forgotten Lioness cults of ancient Africa and the sacred mysteries of Minoan Crete, the Mother survives the rise and fall of civilisations.

And now, at last, we behold her greatest mortal inheritance.

THE HIGH PRIESTESS OF TANIT.

She walks through the streets of Carthage beneath the banners of the Mother, surrounded by a civilisation whose faith has endured for thousands of years in our mythology.

She does not need a sword to command respect. She does not need a crown to possess authority.

Her beauty is undeniable, but it is not the source of her power.

She represents the divine feminine: creation, courage, wisdom, protection and the strength to nurture an entire civilisation.

Behind her stand the temples, the priestesses, the mothers, the daughters and the generations who carried Tanit’s worship into the heart of Carthaginian life.

Rome would destroy Carthage in 146 BCE.

But it could not erase every memory of the Mother.

Her symbol survived.

Her name survived.

AND NOW WE REMEMBER HER.

WHAT IF THE MINOAN SNAKE GODDESS WAS TANIT ALL ALONG? 🐍🌙

More than 3,500 years ago, the women of ancient Minoan Crete lived in a civilisation of magnificent palaces, sacred rituals and mysterious female divinities.

At Knossos, archaeologists discovered extraordinary figurines of women holding serpents, their arms raised as though commanding the sacred creatures.

We call her the Minoan Snake Goddess.

But her true name remains unknown.

And in CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, we believe her story began thousands of years before Crete.

TANIT. THE FIRST MOTHER. THE LIONESS OF AFRICA.

From the ancient Green Sahara, through the forgotten lion cults of North Africa, her worship travelled across the Mediterranean.

In Crete, another civilisation encountered the divine Mother.

Her symbols changed. Her rituals evolved. Her priestesses raised serpents in her honour.

But the goddess endured.

Tonight, beneath the moonlight, Minoan priestesses gather before her sacred image. Their graceful movements are offerings of devotion, fertility, renewal and the eternal mysteries of life.

Not a performance for mortal eyes.

A dance for the Mother.

Long before Carthage raised her symbol upon its temples, our Tanit had already lived through countless generations of worship.

History preserves the Minoan figurines. Their divine identity remains debated. Our mythology gives that ancient mystery a name.

TANIT.

And perhaps the most fascinating question is not whether Crete knew her.

BUT HOW MANY CIVILISATIONS WORSHIPPED THE SAME GODDESS UNDER DIFFERENT NAMES?

TANIT WAS AFRICAN THOUSANDS OF YEARS BEFORE CARTHAGE EXISTED. 🦁🌙

Before Phoenicia. Before Minoan Crete. Before the first temples of Carthage, there was an ancient world flourishing beneath the African sun.

THE GREEN SAHARA.

More than 10,000 years ago, vast regions of North Africa were alive with lakes, rivers, grasslands, wildlife and human communities. Where deserts now stretch to the horizon, people lived beneath a greener sky.

And in CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, this is where the story of our greatest Mother Goddess begins.

TANIT. THE LIONESS OF AFRICA.

Not born in Phoenicia. Not created by Carthage. Not inherited from Greece.

AFRICAN. FROM THE BEGINNING.

Long before Atlantis rises in our mythology, the first priestesses of Tanit lift their open palms above the fertile valleys of the Green Sahara.

They worship the Mother of Life, Fertility and Creation. The divine protector of the land, its animals and the generations who will one day spread beyond Africa.

Here begins our ancient African pantheon.

Thousands of years later, as climates change and civilisations rise and fall, the memory of Tanit travels with humanity.

To Crete. To the Phoenician world. And eventually to Carthage, where her sacred symbol becomes one of the most enduring images of Punic civilisation.

The indigenous peoples of North Africa, whose deep ancestry forms part of the story of the Amazigh, carry their own ancient traditions through the ages.

In our universe, some of those traditions preserve memories of a goddess far older than recorded history.

CARTHAGE DID NOT GIVE TANIT HER NAME.

CARTHAGE REMEMBERED HER.

The Green Sahara was real. Tanit’s worship in Carthage is historical. Her prehistoric African origins are the mythology we are building between them.

But here’s the question:

WHAT IF AFRICA’S OLDEST FORGOTTEN GODS WERE WORSHIPPED BEFORE THE FIRST GREAT CIVILISATIONS?

ROME REMEMBERED HANNIBAL. BUT WHO REMEMBERS THE AFRICANS WHO FOUGHT HIS WARS? ⚔️🔥

Before the Roman legions conquered North Africa, the armies of Carthage marched beneath the banners of one of the greatest military powers of the ancient Mediterranean.

And at the heart of those armies stood the warriors of Africa.

THE LIBY-PHOENICIANS.

Born of the ancient meeting between indigenous North African peoples and Phoenician civilisation, these men belonged to a world where African traditions and Punic culture had become deeply intertwined.

They were not simply foreign mercenaries arriving for a purse of silver. The communities of Carthage’s African territories supplied fighting men, including formidable infantry who helped sustain its wars against Rome.

Among the heavy infantry of the Carthaginian army, North African soldiers fought in disciplined formations, carried shields and spears, and endured campaigns that took them far beyond their homeland.

Their world was one of Tanit, Baal Hammon, ancient African traditions and the gods of the Punic Mediterranean.

Their ancestors had known Africa long before Rome dreamed of conquering it.

And now they stood against the Roman Republic.

In CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, we give these forgotten warriors their place in history.

The rain falls. The wind rises. The enemy approaches.

He does not move.

Because Carthage was never defended by Hannibal alone.

IT WAS DEFENDED BY AFRICANS.

WHAT IF ATHENA WAS AFRICAN BEFORE SHE WAS GREEK? 🦉🔥

Before Athens. Before classical Greece. Before the Sahara became a desert, North Africa was a very different world.

More than 10,000 years ago, the Green Sahara was alive with lakes, rivers, grasslands and ancient human communities.

But what gods did those people worship?

The Greek historian Herodotus recorded traditions connecting Athena with ancient Libya. Other Greek myths placed her near Lake Tritonis in North Africa.

Coincidence? Cultural exchange? Or fragments of something much older?

In CARTHAGINIAN CARNAGE, we explore a provocative possibility.

ATHENA WAS NEVER ORIGINALLY GREEK.

Long before Athens claimed her, Athena walked among the ancestors of North Africa’s ancient peoples.

And she was not alone.

POSEIDON.

Together, they belonged to a forgotten civilisation flourishing in the Green Sahara thousands of years before Carthage or Rome.

A civilisation of sacred waters, powerful priestesses, extraordinary knowledge and ancient gods.

Our Atlantis.

As the Sahara dried, its people scattered, carrying their beliefs and divine memories into the civilizations that followed.

The ancient indigenous heritage of North Africa, including the roots of the Amazigh, becomes part of this extraordinary mystery.

And the beautiful priestess dancing before us?

She worships a goddess whose story began long before Greece carved her image in marble.

ATHENA. GODDESS OF WISDOM, WAR AND CIVILISATION.

The Green Sahara was real. Athena’s connections to Libya survive in ancient Greek traditions. Our Atlantis is where history meets imagination.

WHAT IF ATLANTIS WAS IN AFRICA ALL ALONG? 🌍🦉

BEFORE MEN RULED THE SEAS, THE SEA HAD A GOD. 🔱🌊

Before Carthage commanded the Mediterranean, before Phoenician ships ventured beyond the Pillars of Hercules, the ancient peoples of the Levant told stories of a mighty divine power.

YAM. LORD OF THE SEA.

In ancient Canaanite mythology, Yam embodied the terrifying strength of the waters, a formidable deity whose struggle with Baal became one of the great divine conflicts preserved in the texts of Ugarit.

The sea was never merely water to the ancient mariners. It was a world of storms, hidden depths, unimaginable power and forces beyond mortal control.

For the Phoenicians, whose ships connected the ancient Mediterranean, the sea shaped their prosperity, their dangers and their relationship with the divine.

And across the waters, their descendants built Carthage, one of the greatest maritime powers of the ancient world.

In our vision of ancient Carthaginian worship, the forgotten Lord of the Sea receives his offerings once more.

Before the sacred stone, warriors kneel. Incense rises. The harbours glow beneath the setting sun as prayers are offered to the power dwelling beneath the waves.

And among the worshippers stands our honoured guest:

ESHRAEL — SAVIOUR OF WORLDS. 🔱

Bearing the trident, he stands before Yam’s sanctuary as the faithful gather to honour the ancient waters.

This is a celebration of mythology, maritime heritage and the gods whose stories travelled across the ancient world.

The sea remembers what empires forget.

🌊 HONOUR YAM. LORD OF THE SEA.

MARDUK — KING OF BABYLON

In The Book of Melqart, the gods of the east stand beyond the horizon of Carthage — ancient, powerful, and remembered in their own sacred cities.

Marduk is one of them.

King of Babylon.
Lord of the city.
Guardian of order, kingship, and divine authority.

Before him, incense rises.
The faithful bow.
The dancers offer movement, beauty, and devotion before the throne of their god.

And in the shadow of Babylon, the name of Ishtar is never far away — goddess of love, power, beauty, war, and the fierce divine force of the city itself.

This reel is a tribute to @ishtarmarduk9, whose love of Marduk, sacred dance, and the ancient world inspired this scene.

Different cities. Different gods. Different traditions.

But the same ancient truth:

the gods were not distant ideas — they were present in the life of the city.

Marduk belongs to Babylon.

And tonight, Babylon remembers its king.
