Join me for the last(?) day of shooting for our documentary <3

April 2025, @yvetteschlepers slid into my dm on instagram. She and a few friends had come up with the idea of making a documentary about me, so she asked if I’d be interested and if I’d like to grab a coffee sometime. I said yes, and that’s how we eventually started filming in September last year.

@yvetteschlepers, @christiee_m and @twanthaman ended up following me for almost a year. During that time, I competed in my first men’s gymnastics competitions and started testosterone. They filmed multiple training sessions, a men’s gymnastics competition, an in-depth interview at my home, a presentation to healthcare professionals by @mentaalklassikaal, and the Gay Games in Valencia.

Yesterday was our last really long day of shooting, where we got some beautiful shots of all three of my floor routines from the past year, in an empty gymnastics hall. It was a lot, but also so much fun <3 (I’m so sore today tho HAHA).

The documentary primarily revolves around my switch from women’s to men’s gymnastics, but more broadly, it’s about not fitting into societal norms in different ways, and finding my way through that. I’m really, really curious to see what the final documentary will look like, but everything I’ve seen so far is very promising!

this was my floor routine from the event finals at the @valenciagaygames2026!🥇🏳️‍🌈

normally, floor music with lyrics isn’t allowed in artistic gymnastics, but this competition used an different (inclusive) code of points: more freedom, and men’s & women’s gymnastics were combined. i had sooo much fun during these competitions!!

i loved performing on “je t’haine” by @loicnottet_officiel: my all time favourite artist❤️ it would be really cool if he sees this but small chance haha🥲 (maybe if we tag him???)

what do you think: wouldn’t it be cool if lyrics were allowed in “normal” competitions too? taken in Valencia, España by @remicaris

Gay Games Valencia day 1 - recap🤸🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

WHAT an experience🥹 i won the all-around gold, competed pbars for the first time ever (and made i through my routine!!!) AND did my new floor choreo!

I will post about day 2 (event finals) later, but also took home the gold on beam and floor, and silver on vault 🥇🥇🥈

These we’re literally the most fun competitions i’ve ever done. Never felt more like myself, and it also couldn’t had gone any better! I’m so happy and proud🥹❤️

Thank you for ALL the support, everyone here was amazing!!! A whole queer gymnastics community has been born🥹.

I’m so proud of the whole @triplex.gymnastics team, and especially of @maxxvanaarssen: winning two medals while still recovering from a ruptured achilles is amazing!! And @andrewchupp also deserves a special thankyou, it was amazing to meet you and I really had to give it all to keep up with you ;)

I won the all-around competition at the Gay Games Valencia! 🥇🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

It was such a long and incredibly hot day today, but the atmosphere was absolutely amazing!! I wasn’t really feeling well this morning and had a hard time getting used to all the Gymnova equipment… but in the end the competition was sooo much fun! There were so many people who came to watch, and everyone’s support was just unbelievable 🥹

I’m so proud that we managed to get artistic gymnastics onto the Gay Games programme for the very first time ever. A special thank you to @maxxvanaarssen and @prideandsports for all their hard work and determination to make this happen.

Together with everyone at @triplex.gymnastics, we worked incredibly hard to combine men’s and women’s gymnastics into one inclusive Code of Points. It was honestly amazing to see how well it worked out, and I especially loved seeing all the men on beam :)

What makes this even more special to me is that, as a non-binary person, I won the all-around title. This really is my kind of competition: at the moment I train pretty much every apparatus in artistic gymnastics, so it means a lot to see that I can truly hold my own alongside both the women and the men :)

Here’s my floor routine from today already <3 I absolutely loved finally getting to perform to @loicnottet_officiel’s music in competition, with lyrics!! Hopefully my routines go just as well tomorrow, because then we’ll all get another chance to compete in the event finals❤️

Deze post heb ik gisteren op Linkedin gezet aan de hand van een van de vele posts waar ik me aan ergerde. Hij gaat best wel hard! Dat vind ik heel fijn om te zien, want Linkedin is wel echt een platform waar de stemmen van professionals heel erg op de voorgrond staan. Dat is op zich niet erg, maar wel als er daardoor geen ruimte is voor ervaringen van mensen die het zelf meemaken.

Ik ben benieuwd hoe mijn mede-auti’s/neurodivergents hier naar kijken, so let me knowww!

“Hee Remi! Nu je die M in je paspoort hebt, wil je dan ook dat we je met ‘hij’ aanspreken?”

Deze vraag heb ik de afgelopen week al talloze keren gehad. Vorige week heb ik namelijk mijn voornamen en geslachtsregistratie officieel laten aanpassen. Ik ben nu dus eindelijk echt Remi en dat is zo fijn! Maar ik ben nu ook in al mijn officiële documenten “man”, en daar zijn sommige mensen een beetje verbaasd over. Ik ben namelijk non-binair en gebruik de voornaamwoorden die/diens. Ik krijg dus vaak de vraag waarom ik niet voor een X heb gekozen, en dus de vraag of er iets veranderd is in hoe ik me identificeer.

Ik weet dat deze vragen allemaal goed bedoeld zijn, maar ik vind het toch lastig. Mensen beseffen namelijk niet hoe ontoegankelijk het is om een X in je paspoort te krijgen. Als het makkelijker (en veiliger, maar daar kom ik zo op) was geweest had ik ook liever voor een X gekozen.

Het switchen van een V naar een M is namelijk geregeld in de wet: met een deskundigenverklaring kun je dit aanvragen bij de gemeente waar je bent geboren. Bij een X is dat anders. Het is wel mogelijk, maar het is een proces waarvoor je naar de rechter moet stappen. Je moet een advocaat regelen, jezelf opnieuw en opnieuw verantwoorden, het duurt heel lang en de kosten kunnen oplopen tot 2000 euro. Vervolgens val je buiten allerlei systemen. Het is bijvoorbeeld heel lastig als je op reis gaat, want sommige landen kom je niet binnen met een X in je paspoort. Of je er wel of niet binnenkomt is van tevoren meestal nog erg onduidelijk.

Maar ook in Nederland is in veel belangrijke systemen de optie “X” nog niet ingebouwd. Oneworld schreef er 2 dagen geleden een artikel over, waarin onder andere staat dat het UWV je zwangerschap niet goed kan registreren als je daardoor ziek bent en niet kan werken. Daarom werd de zwangerschap bij de persoon uit dit artikel in plaats daarvan geregistreerd als orgaandonatie. En bij pensioenfondsen val je met een ‘X’ bijvoorbeeld ook buiten het systeem.¹
