I’m excited to share my upcoming solo exhibition, “Sepal”, at Remote Gallery from Sept 29 - Oct 5. If you happen to be in Toronto and are able to come by at any point during the show, I would love to see you there!

Sepal is an exploration of emotional states, traced through the body as both a place of experience and a container of habit. These works examine how vices and mental weight function as forces that can both erode and reconstruct the self. I am interested in the tension between destruction and protection, the ways in which we undo ourselves, and the systems we build to survive that undoing.

The title Sepal refers to the outer layer of a flower in its earlier stages, a protective layer that shields the bud before it opens. I see these habits and emotional patterns as a kind of sepal - an exterior mechanism that guards something more fragile underneath. They keep us safe, but also restrict growth. Within the paintings, this bouncing between protection and suffocation, healing and harm, control and collapse, is often constant.

The figure becomes a central element where these contradictions play out. Bodies are opened, fragmented, or exposed, revealing skeletal and internal forms that point to vulnerability and memory. These anatomical references are not literal, but symbolic, suggesting the permeability between inner experience and outward identity. In some works, figures are caught in repetitive gestures, caught between compulsion and reflection; in others, they appear staged within constructed environments that feel both intimate and unstable.

Ultimately, Sepal is about containment, what we hold in, what we let out, and what protects us from being fully exposed. The works invite viewers into spaces that feel familiar but unsettled, asking them to consider their own systems of protection and the habits that shape their emotional lives. taken in Remote Gallery by @remotegallery

Our Electric Janggo will be accompanied by our Electronic Folding Screen, inspired by the decorative folding screens (병풍) of Korea.

It will feature photography by Karen E. Reeves @dragonfly.imagery

Free Your HeART 🎨 My FIRST solo exhibition - September 19th at @remotegallery in Toronto !!

In celebration of my 35th birthday, I couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate such a huge milestone than to do something I’ve always dreamed of and host my own exhibition.

This show is about having the courage to go after whatever it is that you want to explore more deeply in life. It’s about what happens when you stop living for everyone else and start listening to your own authenticity, curiosity, and freeing your heart in the process.

Inspired by the freedom and honesty of street art, this collection explores what it means to break free from expectation and reconnect with the parts of ourselves that existed before the world told us who we should be.

Featuring ceramic artist Sarah Birrell, the evening will offer the opportunity to view original artwork, meet the artists, and enjoy an inspiring and fun atmosphere of creativity, conversation, and community.

This collection of abstract textile works examines how personal and collective trauma can be translated through minimalist visual forms. Putting emphasis on the austere aesthetic of winter landscapes, the pieces use repetitive white stitching on dark fabric to engage with themes of war, political unrest, and familial grief. By reducing complex sociopolitical realities to stark geometric lines and raw texture, the exhibition explores how the abstractions on textile can serve as a medium for processing conflict and memory. by @remotegallery

Narrative of seeking belonging in a forever evolving world continually evolving with AI. The contrast of technology to being human and our survivalist need to connect to the natural world and a level of conscious wellbeing.

Suzanne Caldarone Izumi's artistic practice is deeply rooted in the beauty of the human form, interpersonal relationships, spirituality, and the natural environment that surrounds me.

Susan Yeung-Kim created layered contemporary portraits and nature-based studies that move between the digital and the handmade. The works begin as digital photographs—captured moments connected to people who hold meaning in my life. I then translate these images through paint, pastel, and ink, reconnecting the image to the hand, body, and heart.

Yvonne Luk in Hairscapes, hair becomes a living map of identity, culture, memory, and belonging. As one of the most visible markers of ethnicity and self-expression, hair carries personal and collective histories, yet it is also fluid, changing, and deeply intimate.

Insta post truth and belonging version 1.0 technology, reflecting our contemporary condition: a reality shaped by both physical experience and digital transformation.

Kabo Tse’s art installation, Go Go Yin Yan, comprises of meditative tokens with Sacred geometries and motifs from flora and fauna like a Buddhist temple reimagined to allow us to connect our physical selves with the metaphysical invisible energy force around us. The black and white objects are arranged in a way to remind us of a Go, Weiqi, or Baduk board or yin yang as each one of human decisions as a metaphor for the game we are playing with AI as we are contemplating the possible end of human dominance. by @remotegallery

Un/Covering Memory - Personal Reinterpretations in the Polaris Cover Sessions

In celebration of the 2026 Polaris Festival, presented by SiriusXM Canada, we bring to you Un/Covering Memory - Personal Reinterpretations in the Polaris Cover Sessions, an exhibition and listening experience exploring how artists use cover songs to reshape memory, identity, and the meaning of Canadian music.

Music functions as both a collective archive and a deeply personal artifact capable of evoking new forms of memory. As a platform, the Polaris Cover Sessions challenge pre-established narratives of Canadian music; rather than merely replicating songs, artists unsettle the boundary between origin and interpretation by asking what it means to reconstruct a track through their own lived reality. These works center on the act of translation, as these artists also explore how a song etched in public memory can become a sonically pliable tool for subjectivity and inclusivity. by @remotegallery
