What To Know About Water-Based Inks!

It All Starts With Good Ink:
In our studio, we only use high-solids, Japanese, water-based inks because they are simply the best on the market. Water-based inks lay down thinner ink deposits with superior edge definition, so small lettering, fine lines, and halftones stay crisp.

What Are Water Based Inks Made Of?
At the core, it’s an acrylic binder in water plus pigments for color. Just as crucial, is what it doesn’t have. The 301 series we use is free from PVC, plastisol, phthalates, and formaldehyde.

How Do Water-Based Inks Feel On Apparel?
Soft, natural, and comfortable from day one. The print feels like a part of the apparel, not like a shiny sticker on top.

How Water-Based Inks Work:
Water-based inks cure in two moves: first, the water flashes off with heat and airflow; then the acrylic binder sets at temperature to fully cure to the garment.

Sean Scotland got his start in screen printing the same way most people do at Rendered: cleaning screens and learning the basics of water-based printing.
Over his 13 years here, he’s done and seen just about everything. He’s run our social media (see if you can find the Sean era), started what eventually became our embroidery department, and jumped over just about every box that’s crossed his path. Somewhere along the way, he became our Production Manager, helping keep the whole operation running and passing along everything he’s learned over the years.

Outside of work, he’s an incredible cyclocross racer and has one of the sweetest families you’ll ever meet.

The story of Rendered wouldn’t be the same without Sean, and we wouldn’t want it any other way. by @rendered.co
