Today I am currently as far along with this pregnancy as I was on the day Oakland was born. In honor of nicu awareness month I wanted to share a few thoughts about our experience. Oakland spent 2 weeks in the nicu with a feeding tube, prongs in his nose to help the flow of oxygen, and was under the bili lights for several days. Hearing the alarms go off and not being able to help your baby, standing there waiting for a nurse to come in to help him breathe again was worst feeling we had ever felt before!

After those 2 weeks in the nicu he was transferred to the pediatric unit for 1 week where he needed to be able to drink a bottle fully on his own, continue to breathe on his own without dropping stats at all and gain weight. It felt like the longest wait ever, but he did it!

The nicu nursing staff was so reassuring, supportive, helpful, and most importantly honest with us. No matter how long a baby is in the nicu it is never ever anyone’s plan. Parents need the most support because going home without your baby every night is something they never ever wanted to go through. For those of you that know Oakland now you would never ever be able to tell that he was born 6 weeks early. He is an absolutely amazing and strong boy! Lots and lots of energy all the time. A true blessing🤍

I will without a doubt say this years garden was a fail. The deer ate half and Stella shredded 2 pepper plants chasing who knows what and my zucchini plants rotted off. I cannot thank Matthew Tourdot and Dawn Tourdot enough for sharing their harvests with Cole and I to help us do our first canning session of the year. So far we have pickled beets, dill pickle spears and chips, zucchini pickles, candied jalapeños and zucchini. Now just waiting for our tomatoes to ripen by @renee_mittlesteadt
