My skux big son at his school formal. He looked so funky cool with his brown linen suit with his baby blue coloured shirt🩵

Waylon always had an individual style, he always had that swagger🔥 when I look back at his pics and vibes I’m like damn he was alot like his Māmā❤️

Five years ago, I decided to receive my moko kauae.❤️

I had just read Te Awa Atua, and it opened my eyes to a way of thinking and being I hadn’t known before. I realised I didn’t have to be anything other than who I already was, born Māori.🔥

I drove to Foxton the day after reading that book. When Uncle Hemi suggested I receive my kauae the following week, I suddenly realised there was no turning back.

I tried to wait until after my moko was born, but he said, “Why wait? Imagine the first thing your moko sees is his nanny with her kauae.”

He was right.

A year later, I met my moko for the first time. I picked him up from his cot, and he reached up and touched my chin. In that moment, something connected. I knew what my kauae meant to him — and what it meant to me.

Five years on, I wear my kauae proudly. She is me and I am her.

It carries my whakapapa, my identity, my healing and my responsibility as a Wahine Māori and a Nanny.

To any Māori wahine who feels that calling: you don’t have to wait until you feel “Māori enough.” Your journey is yours.

Explore your whakapapa. Ask questions. Find your mātauranga. When the time is right, step into it with courage.

I am still learning what my kauae means but I wear her proudly as I move into my 48th year this year. Loving and living my best life as Wahine Māori in the world today.🌸✨❤️

When I look back at what I’ve created over these last two years, I feel proud. Not because it’s always been easy — it absolutely hasn’t.

This year, I lost my beautiful son Waylon and my Māmā Helen Hard❤️‍🔥I’ve walked through grief, heartbreak, challenges, gatekeepers and moments where the world felt stacked against me. And somehow, through all of it, I kept creating.

I created my world because I believe in myself.

I am that woman who turns “I wish I could do it” into “I’m fucking doing it.”

I don’t stop when things get hard. I keep moving. I keep building. I keep creating opportunities, spaces, music and VIBES for myself and for others.

And what I create is sacred to me.

VIBE was born from a belief that there was room for more — more Māori DJs, more wāhine, more rangatahi, more diversity, more connection, more opportunities and more spaces where people can come as they are and feel the music.

And what has grown from that has been bigger than I ever imagined.

To my rocking community and my beautiful and solid Soul Sisters — thank you. ❤️ You have brought your energy, your love, your music, your creativity and your wairua into these spaces. You have helped carry VIBE, and in many ways, you have helped carry me too.

Music has been a huge part of how I’ve kept moving through this year. The sound, the people, the dance floor, the connection, the laughter, the tears, the VIBES — they remind me that even through the darkest moments, there is still life to be lived and created.

And Waylon is forever part of that.

His wairua, his music, his energy and the love I have for my son continue to move through everything I create. ❤️‍🔥

And one last little FYI…

If you come into my spaces, you best come correct or don’t come at all❤️

Because what I’ve created is built on love, respect, music, wairua, community and intention.
