We'll talk about sleep!

It's a quick call, and I'll ask about your kid, what you've already tried, what you want "sleep training" to look like.

I'll tell you what it can look like and how you'll be present and responsive to your child throughout the entire process.

And then we can schedule a time for me to visit and meet you family! Or you can take some time to think about it, and text me later.

It's a casual call. I won't pressure you into this, I find that it works best only when you truly want to do it.

But also.... it's always easier than you expect. Sleep training sounds crazy, but I promise I'll help you through it!

Sometimes the best entertainment is right in your own backyard.

There is so much to learn from even the easiest activities! Don't overlook the simple things just because you've seen it a thousand times -- it's all new to your little one. by @renorestco

If your sensitive child has resisted traditional sleep training methods, it's time to try something different.

Children can't learn how to self soothe on their own, they still rely on us to co-regulate.

Gentle sleep training allows you to stay present with you child the entire time, helping them through those big feelings and learning how to use those skills later on their own.

Chaos, but make it cute 🤪

This is what confident and secure play looks like! Messy play can meet so many needs for a child, and patiently helping them to clean it up after will build trust and love.

And it’s a great time to practice your own emotional regulation skills 🙃

Can I co-sleep AND sleep train? Sure!

Many toddlers are still able to co-sleep and learn how to sleep through the night.

My sleep training plans are all about meeting the goals that YOU want, not what someone else says your child should be doing by a certain age. Gentle sleep training lets you stay by their side the entire time.

I can’t believe I used to do this full time 😅

Sometimes I work as a substitute preschool teacher for Pinion Early Education Center and it’s so much fun but I am definitely exhausted after a full day with those kids taken in Pinion Early Education Center by @renorestco

1. If baby is falling asleep while she eats, she might not be eating until she’s full! Lights on, talking to her, a wet wipe on her tummy or feet are all little tricks you can use to make sure she’s eating until she’s full, not just until she falls asleep.

2. Burp halfway through the feeding. This can help relieve gas before it gets too built up to exit easily, and also helps with the first trick. If you’re breastfeeding, try burping before switching sides. If bottle feeding, go by how much time has passed since you started.

3. Swaddle em up! Keeping the arms tight to the body will prevent startling, which is a pretty upsetting way to wake up. Babies are very easily startled by the smallest noise, especially as newborns. Swaddling isn’t for everyone, but it’s worth a try if you’re having trouble getting baby to stay asleep.

Sleep can be so hard for little ones at this stage. If you’re struggling, I see you. Let me know if you want more tips — we can dive deeper than just the easy tricks! taken in Reno, Nevada by @renorestco

We all just want to know what is expected of us and what will happen next!

If your reactions are unpredictable, that can make your child feel confused about what the boundaries are. This is true for bedtime, sleeping all night, and during the day.

👶 Sometimes crying means my parent's no turns into a yes... what does no mean, if I can change it into a yes?

👶 Is every "no" just a potential "yes" if I cry enough?

👶 If I can cry my way to a yes, then nothing my parents say has power.

👶 Who do I look to for support and guidance?

If this feels confusing to you, you're not alone! Here are my two favorite tips for navigating a boundary:

🤔 Before I set this expectation, will I be able to hold my "no" every time? Is this a matter of health or safety, or do I just feel frustrated by the behavior?

🤔 Am I changing my no to a yes because I feel uncomfortable with my child's reaction, or because it is genuinely what I want?

It's hard to know where to start with something like this. If you're feeling lost, you're not alone.

Send me a DM when you're ready to understand your kid's behavior - it's not as complex as it may seem! by @renorestco
