Our bay window roof replacement ✨

It looks so much better now, we just need to scrape the old paint underneath and repaint and it’ll look brand spanking! 🙌🏼 Swipe to see the befores 👀

Everything is so god damn expensive eh!? To re-board and replace bay roof in single ply membrane cost us £790. Not sure if this is good or not but it is what it is! What do you think?

Much better than before! Can’t wait to get underneath painted. They had to be super careful installing too as the pebbledash is on its last legs (we will replace in the future)

Get all the angles x

The before! It was all lifted and coming away 💀 by @renovatingno24_

Really though, he’s the star of the show and the light of my life so he deserves to fill all the grid space 🤍🤍 Do you guys have pets? 🥹 by @renovatingno24_

HELP. Anyone else experienced the joys of lining paper? 💀

We have lining paper in most rooms in the house on all the cove ceilings. Now cove ceilings are awkward as they are, add in some stubborn lining paper that acts like it’s part of the furniture and you have a recipe for disaster. It is SO stubborn it’s unreal and we can’t plaster over it so it needs to be done (to my dismay).

Does anyone have any tips and tricks to help!? PLZ, sincerely a crazy lady and her family 😂 by @renovatingno24_

Let’s talk sweaty roofs 🥵 I couldn’t have found a more fitting song if I tried 😂

The previous owner has insulation installed in-between the eaves in the loft, it’s good stuff and there’s a lot of standard insulation between the beams too. But there’s one problem, there was 0 ventilation. All the heat was rising and it made the roof extremely hot, which caused minor mould patches on the insulation between the eaves.

Only one way to fix it… Let it breathe 🌬️

We had a roofer come and install two tile vents on each side of the roof (six in total). While there he also repointed a bit of the chimney stack, and fixed some weak points in the guttering system. Can you guess how much this cost?

🥁🥁🥁 … £750. So, do you think this is reasonable?

[We had another quote for £700 but they also wanted to charge extra for repointing the stack, repairing the few weak spots in the gutters and redressing the rear lead apron (we didn’t get this last bit done) and they wanted £745 for those few extras] by @renovatingno24_

Let’s talk lead pipe replacement ✨ Glamorous eh?

So we read a lot about this and when we dug our kitchen floor out (a historic leak - but that’s another issue), we confirmed we had lead pipes supplying our water from the mains and in our house. This wasn’t really a shock given the age of the house! We asked around and found a ‘mole man’ who could do the job (what a title 🦫)

Luckily in researching about lead pipes, we came across a grant scheme offered by United Utilities whereby they pay you a portion of what the job costs 💵 The mole man dug a channel underground with special tools to feed the new pipe through.

Question is, have you had this done/ quoted? Our job cost £950 and we got a £550 grant from United Utilities! So we paid £400, which I think is well worth it for an updated supply 👀 by @renovatingno24_

Soil pipe had a glow up recently 💅🏼

It’s the little things ay, but it really needed doing as it was an old cast iron one and it was growing some green ✨features✨

When I started this page I said I would share quotes/ approximates of what we pay as I think it’s so hard for people to know without something to compare it to (myself included). So I’ve detailed the quotes we had below, let me know what you think? 👀

Three quotes we had were £935, £1295 and £1366. All plus VAT.

Shiny and new plastic 💪🏻

✨ Bathroom ceiling glow up ✨

Follow the photos to see where we started and what we did!

A summary of what we did for those struggling with the same.
1. We mixed white vinegar and warm water to remove the mould
2. We raked out the cracks with a stanley knife, removing loose debris
3. Sanded the surface (cracks and peeling paint)
4. Primed the surface with Zinsser sealer/primer
5. Filled the cracks (as best we could)
6. Used mesh tape over the larger cracks and filler over the top
7. Once set, sand down as smooth as possible
8. Painted with moisture resistant white paint

Thank you to all the instagram DIYers for showing me how to do this 😂 Is this helpful?!

A reminder of the horror we uncovered when we removed the previous owners false ceiling. ✨It all makes sense ✨ Luckily this is as a result of there being no ventilation and a looooot of condensation over time.

We got to work wiping the mould off with white vinegar and warm water and a lot of arm power 😂 A couple of gos doing this and the mould was pretty much off!

We were left with cracks and peeling paint, yay.

We got to work filing out, sanding, priming and filling cracks.

aaaaand voilà, we have something like this now. This is after one coat of mould resistant white paint. I think we will do another coat but we’re pretty much there!

✨ Finished product ✨ Not perfect, but we will still be putting a false ceiling up, so it doesn’t need to be. It was just really bothering me that I didn’t want to just ‘cover it up’ as it was. Would you have bothered? by @renovatingno24_

Long time no see 👋🏼 Kinda just been enjoying summer and trying to forget I have a reno…

You may remember there being a big tree to the right of this photo, well our neighbour very kindly said we could cut it down as it was blocking the light in pretty much all of our garden. So back in summer we got to work cutting it down and my god was it a job… Including an injury or two 😂💀

This was the tree, it was huuuuuuge but photos don’t really do it justice. We spent the first hour battling with a faulty chainsaw until I decided enough was enough and ran to screwfix for a new one. Soooo much better when you have the right tools!

Taking photos clearly wasn’t a priority for the ‘during’ so enjoy a log that is left with a MOUND of branches to dispose of.

Project chop up commence! We disposed of a lot in any bin we could find and put the big trunks in the skip we had!

It seemed to be never ending…

But look, we have light!!

Oh, you may be wondering about the ‘injuries’ I mentioned earlier. Odd cuts and bruises, but the main one was to me 😂 Two wide tree trunks from the centre of the tree fell and hit me on the top/ back of the head as I crouched down. I went a bit dizzy and my ears were ringing but a good old bag of peas did the trick 👀 by @renovatingno24_

Progress? Don’t get me wrong, we have a long way to go but we now have a floor in the kitchen!

1. Today
2. 19th May, first go at the joists
3. 4th May, our first day with no floor after ripping the joists out
4. 17th April, after the kitchen rip out
5. 15th April, day after we got the keys

22nd May we moved the boiler to under the stairs. In case it helps anyone, this cost us £800 to move the boiler to under the stairs (to the left of the room photographed), it’s on the same wall and involved the pipework being redone! by @renovatingno24_

The difference mowing the lawn (thanks dad) and a bit of sun can make 🌞

This is probably my favourite ‘room’ in the house at the minute as everywhere else is in a state 😂 Can’t wait to do more to the garden in time. I’m thinking of making a little seating area at the back left of the photo as that gets sun for longest. We met our neighbour the other day, she was lovely and has kindly said we can cut the tree down on the right of the photo and this will make a massive difference to the sun in the garden, and of course, we need new fences! 🪴🪏 by @renovatingno24_

First home, first reno… what could possibly go wrong? 👀

We’ve just bought a 1925 3-bed semi and the to-do list is longer than my arm already.

I’d happily skip straight to the cute decor stage, but for now it’s dust, decisions, and a LOT of learning.

I’ve followed so many reno accounts for inspo for SO long so thought it was only right to make our own to document the journey! We’ll be sharing the real stuff — progress, before & afters, costs (because wow… it’s a minefield), and everything in between.

Featuring our little supervisor Harley 🐾
