Want to see a Haleakalā sunrise? You don’t want to be *that* person without a plan 🌄🌞

If you want to watch the sunrise from the summit (anywhere from 3:00-7:00AM), no reservation = no sunrise for you 🚫

Reservations drop twice: once 60 days ahead, and again 2 days before (at 7:00 AM) if any are left.

You can find them online at the recreation.gov website— you can ONLY get them online. They will not allow you to purchase them at the park. They sell out due to interest and limited parking.

If you miss the 60 day window (like me, because who plans things that far in advance?? 🙈🙃), you can try again 2 days beforehand at 7:00AM sharp.

PRO TIPS:
- Create a recreation.gov account before 7:00 AM. Unless you thrive under pressure… otherwise… **trust me on this** 😎

- if there are no tickets available for the day you want to go, sunsets are apparently just as stunnning (i haven’t experienced this yet, so I cannot confirm nor deny)

- The person who purchased the ticket will need a valid driver’s license and a printed ticket (no, they will not print them for you nor will a screenshot cut it) 🤪

- Tickets are per vehicle— NOT per person 🚙

WHY YOU’D WANT TO GO HERE?
Haleakalā (meaning “house of the sun”) NP holds Maui’s highest peak at 10,023 (3,005 m) feet above sea level. According to the recreation.gov website, Haleakalā is said to be where demigod Maui lassoed the sun, to slow its passage so people had more time to dry kapa/cloth and grow food. Watching the sunrise at Haleakalā’s summit has been a visitor attraction since the late 1800s.

HOW TO FIND THE BEST HIKING PAWTNER 🐾

1. obtain puppy 🐶
2. love puppy like nobody’s business 🤍
3. take puppy everywhere ⛰️🌿

There’s a lot of ugly in the world right now, so here’s some cuteness for your feed that you’d see if my phone were held for ransom 🤪💸🐶🥾

this trend 😍 When these two worlds collided… I got a lifelong love for adventure. ✨🥾

Turns out, I never had a choice—apparently wanderlust is in my DNA.

I love that I got to hike the same trails that my parents did 20+ years later on Oahu. I won’t get to talk to my dad about it, but it’s been so amazing to see some of the same views that he saw too ⛰️🌺🥾

Think you’re too busy to get outside? I get it. This post may be more for me lately than anyone else 🙈

Life is packed, responsibilities pile up, and suddenly, another week goes by without a single adventure. 😩

Good news: You don’t need more time—you just need a better strategy. Here’s how to fit in outdoor time without rearranging your entire life:

✅ Make it a non-negotiable. Schedule outdoor time like you would a meeting. If it’s on your calendar, you’re more likely to follow through.

✅ Micro-adventures count. A 20-minute walk, eating lunch outside, or watching the sunset still gets you fresh air and a mental reset.

✅ Stack it with other plans. Meeting a friend? Suggest a park instead of a coffee shop. Need to make calls? Walk while you talk.

✅ Have an “adventure bag” ready. Keep essentials (shoes, snacks, water) in your car or by the door so you can say yes to spontaneous outings.

✅ Leverage social media wisely. Instead of just saving hikes you’ll never do, use IG location tags, Pinterest, and AllTrails to find spots close to you that fit your schedule.

You don’t need to wait for the perfect free day. Just start small and get outside. 🍃

For your national park adventure— based on *convenience* (start here if you got overwhelmed out of excitement thinking about it— you just need a good checklist! 📋🌿)

Step 1: Google “national parks near me.” (Groundbreaking, I know.)

Step 2: Use the NPS website or AllTrails to see what’s what. And what actually speaks to you

Step 3: Check the weather—because hiking in a heatwave or snowstorm isn’t the adventure you think it is.

Step 4: Pick your park, pack your schnackies, and go!

Now you have zero excuses (unless your couch is just suuuuuuuuper comfy… 🙃)

Not to be dramatic, but your phone will still be here when you get back from your next adventure. ✨🥾

If you need a sign to get outside, this is it. Go chase some joy, find some fresh air, and touch some grass (literally). And if you need help finding the best spots, dope hidden gems, and/or trails with a low/moderate work-to-high reward ratio—that’s what I’m here for. 😉🥾 Save this for later, and then go get some fresh air and sunshine ☀️

Because you know… in a moment… you could be questioning every life decision… like why you didn’t do this sooner ✨

Plot twist: The ‘perfect time’ to go adventure doesn’t really exist.

Every time I choose adventure over excuses, it always pays off. Even if it’s just a short hike, a last-minute sunset chase, or a ‘screw it, let’s go’ kind of day. You don’t need to go far, just go. Hike that trail. Chase that view. Get lost in the best way (but you know, responsibly)

Because you know… in a moment… you could:
⛰️ Be standing somewhere that takes your breath away.
🌿 Feel actually alive again.
☀️ Remember why fresh air is free therapy.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but fresh air, sunshine, and a little adventure are exactly what you need this weekend. ☀️⛰️

It doesn’t matter how. Whether it’s a short hike, a scenic drive, relaxing walk, or just sitting by the water, I find I never regret it ✨

Where are you heading this weekend? 👇

Not all IG-famous hikes are worth it… but this one understood the assignment. 💯.

Want to make sure your next adventure actually lives up to the hype? Here’s how to use social media to find the best spots near you: 👇

✅ Search location tags & hashtags – Try #[YourCity]Hikes, #[State]HiddenGems, or #[ParkName] for real photos & experiences.

✅ Check recent posts & reels – Places can change! Look at the latest content to see current conditions & crowd levels.

✅ Read comments & captions – People spill the real details here—like if a “hidden gem” is actually swarming with people. 😅

✅ Use TikTok & Pinterest for deep dives – Both are goldmines for hike breakdowns, parking tips, and lesser-known trails.

✅ Follow local outdoor creators – They do the scouting for you. 😉

National parks, but make them *more* magical⚡️
I asked ChatGPT to sort national parks into Hogwarts houses, and this is what happened! 🦁🐍🦅🦡

🦁 Gryffindor – Yosemite National Park
• Bold, dramatic, and full of people doing slightly reckless things for the best views. If El Capitan were a person, it’d 100% be that one friend who free climbs for “fun.”

🐍 Slytherin – Glacier National Park
• Stunning, icy, and knows it. Gatekeeps its best sights with intense hikes and limited access. If you don’t have at least bear spray and an exit strategy, Glacier probably thinks you’re weak.

🦅 Ravenclaw – Great Basin National Park
• Obscure, intellectual, and underrated. It’s got dark sky stargazing, ancient bristlecone pines, and an underground cave system. Basically, if a national park had a PhD, it’d be this one.

🦡 Hufflepuff – Shenandoah National Park
• Cozy, wholesome, and full of rolling hills. Gives off the energy of a park that just wants you to have a peaceful hike and maybe see a black bear (from a responsible distance).

Lazy(ish)-girl hiking, but make it lava. 🌋🔥

Because some days, I want to see a volcano, lava tubes, and ancient petroglyphs—without feeling like I just did CrossFit. Because not every adventure needs to leave you questioning your life choices… 😅🌋

Lazy-Girl Approved Spots in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park 🌋✨

📍 Kīlauea Overlook – A drive-up viewpoint of the massive Kīlauea Caldera. If the volcano is active, you might see the glow at night! Even if it’s not, you will still probably see steam

📍 Kīlauea Iki Trail (Lazy-Girl Edition) – **MY FAVORITE THING INNTHE WHOLE PARK** A moderate, but totally worth it 3-ish mile hike that takes you across a volcanic crater. It looks intense, but it’s mostly flat once you’re in the crater. It’s an experience that I’ve never had before!DO NOT FORGET SUNSCREEN! The sun is not forgiving here!

📍 Steam Vents – A short, easy walk to steaming earth

📍 Thurston Lava Tube (Nāhuku) – A cool lava cave just a 10-minute walk from the parking lot. Looks straight out of Jurassic Park.

📍 Devastation Trail – 1-mile paved trail through otherworldly volcanic terrain from the 1959 eruption. Easy and stunning

📍 Holei Sea Arch – A rock arch carved by lava and waves, right at the end of Chain of Craters Road. Drive up and enjoy.

📍 Pu‘u Loa Petroglyphs – 1.4 miles round trip, Hawai’i’s largest petroglyph field with ancient carvings. Flat trail, high reward. **fill disclosure: these petroglyph photos were taken from another trail on Big Island bc I didn’t have time to see the ones in the park, but I still wanted to share how cool they are, and more exist in the park!

➡️ Follow for more low-work, high-reward nature gems to experience joy and awe outdoors ✨🌋

💾 Save this for later & tag your lazy-girl hiking buddy! 👯‍♀️🥾

Kīlauea has had several eruptions since 2018. Would you travel here? by @renowned_playgrounds
