Michael Suh (粟多壮), Senior Curator of Asian Projects at the Vancouver Biennale, published an intriguing piece in the Vancouver-based publication(see the link below). The essay raises thought-provoking questions for contemporary curatorial debates and practices. However, some of the author’s arguments are presumptuous. Claims about the cultural politics of representation are particularly problematic when based on insufficient research or lack of solid facts. Additionally, the essay’s binary logic is also very concerning. While this isn’t an appropriate place for a detailed response, my primary objective here is to mitigate the emotional impact of this social media blog.

Congratulations to Yoon Ahn who passed the dissertation defense💐🎉👍. Yoon’s work represents an important contribution to a comparative understanding of how research-based artists in South Korean and China respond to neoliberal norms and practices. Thanks to Yoon’s committee members: Professors Rae E. Dachille (pictured here), Dian Li, and Sandra Park. by @renworks
