Thoroughly enjoyed this creative process. Use of strings, hand percussion, accelerando, and swells were dominant themes that helped me mould my score to the final edit.

After an extended hiatus, we’re back with a very special release!

From the depths of the underground, Renzo (Mats) emerges with Obscura—his debut release on Unrestricted Purpose. Obscura: is a five-track odyssey through the raw, unrelenting energy of electronic bass music, where textural sound design meets dancefloor demolition.

Renzo distills the essence of drum and bass into four distinct and hard-hitting interpretations, each track a testament to his precision and sonic dexterity. Swerving between intricate percussion, cavernous basslines, and relentless diesel fueled momentum. The EP moves with an undeniable force, pushing the boundaries of the genre’s weight and intensity. But true to its name, Obscura embraces the shadows—an invitation into a darker, more immersive space where distortion, tension, and release reign supreme. 
Adding another dimension, Al Dente @al_dente______ takes the reins on a deep and brooding tech house remix, offering a contrast that lures listeners into an even murkier, hypnotic haze.

Some words from Mats:
The theme of Obscura came from looking through rain speckled glass windows of cars and trains, the obscured movement is almost transcendental to me. It’s always something that’s made me contemplate and mentally wander. I’m so blessed to have had the help of Jeremy, Lachie, and Steph to bring this entire theme and release to life 🌸🌸💕💕

Had the privilege of working on a composition for @bug.skin and thank you @maxinezzanoni for trust and support always 💕💕

Really enjoyed adding lots of texture and found sound from down the west coast and city surrounds. I’ve been a Bug Skin fan for ages so I loved contributing to this beautiful work.

Petrichor is Renzo’s second release of 2025.

A snapshot of the tension between a storm and its impending downpour, these three tracks journey through downtempo, dubstep and liquid drum and base. Detailed by warped sampling, gritty breaks, field recordings and colourful sound design, the EP speaks to the flux of nature, that eventual break in the storm.

Other Joe features with a fitting remix of Like Water: It’s textural, warm, and gently groove driven. In visual terms it’s the flowers reopening themselves to the sun, raindrops still slick on their petals. Here, the storm clouds roll on and the petrichor fades. 🌸🌞🌩️

Mogging for new music this Sunday!!!

Petrichor is an EP I’ve been working on over the past 4-5 months.

The title track Petrichor was inspired by the smells and feelings evoked by a thunderstorm when I arrived in Rome last year to travel.

Lost Properties welcome Naarm/Melbourne producer, Renzo, into the fold with 'Hot To Touch', a three tracker, exploring different valences of the acidic, groove-leaning local sound.

With 'Area 51', Renzo tackles squelchy downtempo — a chugger from heaven, marked by intricate percussion and moody foreboding.

'Power Within' opens with new angle on stomping tech house, detailed FM lines and bright pads swirling in and out of earshot.

'Sundance' shoots the pace up again with a bright and skippy groover. Here, resonant FM lines nod to the prog house wave, while the wonderstruck keys turn their gaze to Detroit.
