🆘 💔😭 PLEASE DON’T LET HUERA’S STORY END HERE. 🙏

8 YO, 16.8 lb Huera (#A2286809) came into the shelter on 7/28 after her owner was hospitalized.💔 She was kept on hold for an entire month, waiting and hoping her family would come back for her…But no one came.😭

Now this little senior girl is left alone, confused and frightened, wondering where her family went. Her medical notes also mention a soft thoracic mass.

When I first met Huera, she was hiding in the back of her kennel, trembling with her tail tucked tightly between her legs. She was simply too scared to come out.💔 I had to leave that day, but I couldn’t stop thinking about her and promised myself I would try again.

The following week, I found her hiding in the back cubby again. I gently closed the divider and went around to get her. She allowed me to leash her and quietly walked to the yard. At first, she kept her distance, sniffing and exploring on her own. But slowly, she began to trust me. Toward the end of our time together, she finally came over and stood beside me, allowing gentle scratches behind her ears and along her back.🥹
It may seem like a small moment, but for a frightened little girl who had been hiding from the world, it meant everything.

Huera is shy and cautious, but she showed me that there is still a little hope in her heart. She just needs someone patient enough to give her time, safety and love.❤️ PLEASE give Huera the chance she desperately deserves.
She has already lost her family. Please don’t let her lose her life too.😭

🚨 ADOPT • FOSTER • RESCUE • PLEDGE • SHARE. Please help this scared senior girl find a quiet, loving home where she can finally feel safe and cherished for whatever years she has left. She deserves to know what it feels like to be loved again. 🙏🥺❤️

🚨Orange Medical Alert for Sammy. This small senior girl was able to participate in a relaxing sound bath with some of our other senior dogs, organized by volunteer @brynnalexanderdogs and led by @soundhealher.mo Thank you both for this opportunity!

This little lady came to the shelter in August after her owner died. She was on the standard 30 day hold for pets in that situation, and is now available for adoption or rescue. Due to her various health issues (noted below), the shelter is suggesting that she leave and go into a hospice situation.

Animals appearing on the Orange Alert are not irremediably suffering but require urgent and/or extensive medical care beyond what LAAS can provide.

🩷Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge. If you’re interested in adopting Sammy, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet her.

Sammy #A2289287
11 years old, spayed female, 11 lbs
Came to the shelter as an owner died on 08/12/26

3. Mild improvement of conditions despite in shelter treatment, hospice care outside of shelter is recommended

If no improvement in their current conditions at 5 days, reassess quality of life and animal’s capacity to thrive with the shelter’s current resources. **Major Medical

📣UPDATE: ADOPTED!🎉
🆘💔🆘 PLEASE DON’T LET SWEET MICHOACAN GROW UP IN A SHELTER! 😭

😍 11-month-old, 16.5 lbs Michoacan (#A2291307) arrived at the shelter as a stray on 8/28. Sadly, no one came looking for this adorable little boy.🥺

When I visited him last week, Michoacan was waiting at the front of his kennel. As soon as I opened the door, he eagerly came forward and was easy to leash.🥰 He walked nicely with me to the yard, where he happily ran, explored, greeted the dog next door, and then came right back to me for attention. He even let me gently pet his head.❤️

Michoacan LOVES treats and already seems to know “sit.” With a little patience and practice, he was learning quickly! He also had a wonderful time playing fetch and happily greeted another volunteer, accepting treats and playing with her, too. 🥹🐾

Michoacan is still just a BABY, with so much love, joy, and potential ahead of him. And his adorable underbite makes him even more irresistible! 😍💕
He should be growing up in a loving home not behind shelter doors, wondering why no one came for him.🥺

Please don’t let this sweet boy become another forgotten shelter dog. He needs an adopter or rescue to give him the safe, loving forever home he deserves.

UPDATE: Leo has been adopted!

Courtesy Post: Leo needs a new home and to be the only dog. He is currently located in Ventura.

Here’s what his owner has to say about him: “Leo is a fun, friendly, loving and lovable cairn terrier mix. I would love to keep him but I have health issues that returned and make it impossible. He likes to cuddle, walk, and play. He hasn’t been able to have toys and chews so he would love that again. He’s healthy, the groomer said he’s really good and so did the dog trainer and vet. He is looking for a single dog home and lots of love.”

If you’re interested in adopting Leo, reach out and I can get you in touch with his owner.

Please share to help Leo find a new home. Thank you! taken in Ventura, California by @rescuealldogs

💔😭 HE LOST HIS PERSON AND NOW HE’S ALL ALONE.😭💔

9 YO, 15 lb Mickey (#A2289275) arrived at the shelter on 8/12 after his owner passed away.💔 He was placed on hold and kept inside for an entire month, quietly waiting and hoping that someone from his family would come for him. But no one ever did.😭

When I entered Mickey’s kennel, he was hiding underneath the bed in the back cubby, trembling with fear.💔 When I moved closer, he gave a soft growl and backed farther into the corner. He wouldn’t take a treat and wanted nothing to do with the leash.😔

I gently worked with him and was eventually able to scoop him up and carry him outside. For the first part of our time together, Mickey kept his distance, unsure of what to do. He explored a little, relieved himself, and occasionally came near me.

After about 30 minutes, Mickey finally began to trust me. He rolled over and invited me to rub his belly.🥹 That frightened little boy who had been trembling under his bed was still in there, but so was the sweet, loving dog who just needs someone to make him feel safe again.

Mickey has already lost the person he loved. Please don’t let him lose his chance at a loving home, too.🙏 Please, someone give this scared senior the second chance he desperately deserves. He deserves a warm bed, gentle hands, patience, and a family who will cherish him through his golden years, not another lonely night behind shelter doors.

UPDATE 9/22/26: Rescued

🚨 Hunk must be rescued/adopted before 4:00pm 09/29/2026 or sooner - medical notes have been replaced with updated info below.

I was very happy to get to spend a little quiet time with Hunk today. I’m surprised that he is still in the shelter, to be honest. He’s currently kenneled with an adorable small senior female dog, and when I entered the kennel they were snuggled up in a dog bed together 🥹

Hunk was surrendered on September 1 by his owner, with no information given. What we do know is that he’s major medical and needs to get out of the shelter.

💙Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge. If you’re interested in adopting Hunk, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet him.

Hunk #A2292407
8 years old, male (not neutered), 10 pounds

Medical notes:
Estimated 5-8YR cryptorchid dog with bilateraly lenticular sclerosis of the eyes and blindness in the shelter (r/o age-related changes vs. congenital vs. secondary to endocrine disease vs. secondary to chronic ocular condition/injury vs. other ocular condition)

NOT ELIGIBLE FOR FOSTER AT THIS TIME; MEDICAL TO APPROVE ADOPTIONS

🥺💔 PLEASE DON’T LET LACY BE FORGOTTEN.

2 YO, 16 lbs Lacy (#A2291474) came into the shelter as a stray on 8/26, and sadly, no one ever came looking for her.💔 Her intake notes were scary: she lunged, growled, and barred her teeth.🙈Understandably, I was cautious when I met her last week. But the moment I stepped into her kennel, she rolled over and offered me her belly.🥹 She let me rub her belly, scratch her chin, and hold her paw. She allowed me to leash her easily, and when I carried her out of the kennel and placed her down, she wouldn’t walk. Instead, she climbed right up my leg.

When I carried her to the M&G room, she explored, then came over asking for pets. She put her paws on my lap, sniffed my face, and allowed me to hold and love on her.❤️ She even met a 3-month-old puppy and was friendly with him.🥰

Lacy isn’t a bad dog, she’s a scared little girl who needs patience, time, and someone willing to let her come around at her own pace.🥺 She deserves the chance to feel safe and loved.

Please ADOPT, FOSTER, PLEDGE, RESCUE, or SHARE for Lacy. One share could be the one that saves her life. Please give this little girl a chance.🙏

3 hours of volunteering in less than 60s 🐕

Many pups spend far too much time confined to their shelter kennels, and the stress can really take a toll. So volunteers play the role of taking them for walks, give them one-on-one attention and remind them that there’s more to life than four concrete walls.

For the scared ones, we approach gently and patiently, helping them adjust to this environment.

For those abandoned by their families, we can’t replace a forever home, but we're here for them like family.

Cookie #A2289912
6 months, 44lbs, female (spayed)

For those at risk of losing their lives, we give everything we can to advocate for them.
Currently on the Urgent List:

🆘️ Braxx #A2287691
3 yrs, 65lbs, male (neutered)

🆘️ Fox #A2280619
2 yrs, 61lbs, male (neutered)

🆘️ Maxwell #A2284407
11 months, 64lbs, male (neutered)

...plus 10+ pups also at risk 🆘️🆘️🆘️

The reality of shelter life can be harsh. But this is where volunteers come in—to advocate for those who can’t speak for themselves.

UPDATE: Rescued by @goldenyearsdogsanctuary
🚨 Bob must be rescued/adopted before 4:00pm 09/25/2026 or sooner - medical notes have been replaced with updated info below.

Senior boy Bob is a special little guy! He came in as a stray in mid August with a possible owner, but no one came for him.

The first time I asked to meet him, he was dealing with a URI, so I had to wait until he was feeling better. Luckily, by the following weekend I got to spend some time with him. He is minor medical, and notes are included below.

He enjoyed some soft treats and wagged his tail a lot (like when he was eating or looking at a volunteer he likes). He walked around the lobby exploring, and he let me pet him, pick him up, and carry him with no issue. When I carried him back toward his kennel I was asked to pass him to someone else and he was calm when being handed over.

If you’re looking for a little senior to love and care for, please consider Bob. I really enjoyed our time together and am excited for who ever gets to adopt him.

💚If you’re interested in adopting Bob, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet him. Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge.

Bob #A2013962
9 years old, neutered male, 7.69 pounds

🧡Orange /Major Medical Alert
1. Estimated 10-12YR neutered chihuahua with moderate to severe age-related conditions 2. Persistent URI with mucopurulent nasal discharge despite in-shelter treatment 3. Underweight, despite special feeding schedule 4. Intermittent diarrhea, currently on special feeding 5. Hospice care outside of shelter is recommended

UPDATE 9/22/26: Rescued

🚨 Hunk must be rescued/adopted before 4:00pm 09/29/2026 or sooner - medical notes have been replaced with updated info below.

He was surrendered on September 1 by his owner who did not leave any notes. So unfortunately, we really don’t know anything about his life up until now. He came in severely matted and thanks to the wonderful groomer at the shelter, he was cleaned up and is looking and feeling better. Hunk is visually impaired, but while we were together I didn’t see him bump into anything.

He was shaking when I first met him, but he allowed me to leash, hold, carry, and pet him. We spent some quiet time together and just relaxed. I offered him a bunch of different treats until he finally found the one he really liked. I left him some extra when I put him back in his kennel.

The shelter is loud and kind of scary for a little dog, especially one with vision issues. Let’s try to get Hunk into a loving home with a responsible owner who will keep him safe.

💙Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge. If you’re interested in adopting Hunk, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet him.

UPDATE: EUTHANASIA DEADLINE 9/30 WEDNESDAY

GINGER IS AT RISK 🆘️

SIX WEEKS. That’s how long Ginger has been at the shelter and already been added to the Urgent List (a step before euthanasia) due to behavioral decline in the shelter. Soon, she'll be given an euthanasia deadline 🆘️

Ginger arrived at the shelter with her ears cropped extremely short. A scar indicating she's been already failed once.
She was still wearing her (former) owner's tag, but no one ever came for her. Failed twice.

For weeks, Ginger was on a hold that prevented her from being walked, leaving her confined to her kennel with little human interaction or chance to decompress.

Yet despite everything, Ginger continues to show us what a sweet girl she is.

In playgroups, she's been described as "gentle, dainty, selective, steerable, bouts of play*"

Ginger has been failed by humans, but the right human can still change her story.
She deserves a chance to know what safety and care really mean.

Please SHARE. OFFER TO FOSTER. ADOPT. PLEDGE FOR RESCUE 🆘️

Ginger #A2286079
4 yo, 49lbs, female (spayed)
