This brought me closure.

I’m honored to share Reservation Redemption, a powerful story of transformation, accountability, and leadership. The film follows the journey of “Chief” Marchand Rice — from a teenager sentenced to life without parole for murder, to becoming a respected leader throughout Washington State prisons.

Watching his evolution challenged me deeply. And brought me closure for an experience that I had in my early life. It made me reflect on redemption, responsibility, and the human capacity for change — even in the darkest places. This story stayed with me long after the credits rolled.

Join us at the Spokane International Film Festival to experience it for yourself. Follow their socials @reservationredemption and @brendahovisfisher for upcoming screenings and visit www.reservationredemption.com to learn more.

This will not be the last ask I make of you during our month 😅

Reservation Redemption
In 1988, 17-year-old Chief Marchand Rice was arrested in the grisly murder of an elderly couple in Washington State. In 1989, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He avoided the death penalty by a single vote. That was 37 years ago. In 2023, the Washington Supreme Court ruled that sentencing juveniles to life without the chance of parole constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. Chief now has the chance to be resentenced.

“Who do you want to be when you grow up?” One question changed everything for Chief Marchand Rice. This is Reservation Redemption.

🎬 Learn more in bio.

Follow the journey of “Chief” Marchand Rice — a Colville Citizen and tribal member who has spent more than three decades in prison.

At age 17, Chief Marchand Rice received a life sentence without parole, narrowly missing the death penalty by a single vote. Francis Cullooyah, a Kalispel spiritual leader, changed the Chief’s life trajectory by asking a simple question. “Who do you want to be when you grow up”? Realizing he had a choice despite the life sentence he was given. He changed a life without to a life within. He immersed himself in his Native Culture he had never known before and became a leader, a teacher, and a mentor for anyone who wanted to learn.
