Activists from @geordiesblockgenocide blockaded a Rafael-owned factory in Newcastle, disrupting access to the facility in protest against Rafael’s involvement in supplying weapons and military technology to 'Israel'.

The protesters are calling for an end to British cooperation with Rafael and its subsidiaries, accusing the company of profiting from the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

Session #4 of our Indus Legacy 2026 Programme: ‘Pakistan: A Crash Course Introduction’. 🌾🧡🇵🇰

A double-bill this time! With our amazing facilitator duo of Maryam and Jaffer each delivering comprehensive presentations on Pakistan and the surrounding regions with particular focus on Balochistan.

First up, Jaffer guides us through Pakistan’s historical and political origins, from Jinnah and the Muslim League, through Partition and the creation of the state to its contemporary landscape - covering its internal contradictions, political legacies, military-industrial complex, erosion of secular conceptualisations of the state, and the rise of religious nationalism and extremism.

Our facilitators also detail specific case studies highlighting the plight of persecuted minorities - including forced conversions, which they themselves have documented and reported on.

We then turn our focus to Balochistan in the second half of the session, exploring its ongoing struggle for self-determination and human rights, alongside similar struggles across the region including what is currently unfolding in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Maryam guides us through the geopolitical interests and ambitions of world powers seeking influence and control over the land, juxtaposed by the resistance of indigenous people - and the crucial leadership of women within these movements.

She also shared the realities she witnessed firsthand from her own time in Balochistan. In addition to stories of friends, activists, and local people. Concluding with her own journey of exile after fleeing Pakistan due to her work as an activist and researcher highlighting grave human rights violations such as enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings - while continuing to face threats to her own life.

This session offered our cohort a deeper understanding of the histories, realities and ongoing struggles across the region, while placing the voices and experiences of those directly affected at the centre of our learning.

We came together in numbers once again today to honour our steadfast comrade and friend Laura.

She was extremely dedicated to the cause, having been there since the very first blockade in February of 2024.

Her determination will strengthen our resolve to shut the factory down, and her commitment and strength will live on through us.

Thank you Laura, you will be deeply missed.

THIS MORNING: Comrade violently arrested by Rafael's private security aka Northumbria Police for opposing genocide!

Rafael Advanced Defence Systems is an Israeli state-owned weapons factory in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

What we do is legal but the police always have an itch to scratch because they are institutionally violent, racist, sexist, and homophobic.
