Say hello to one of the newest adjunct instructors of Bethune-Cookman University! I put on my 20+ year old sweatshirt to celebrate. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune has been my "shero" since I was 8 years old when I learned about her in a Sunday School class. I was inspired by how she started a school with just $1.50, five little girls, and her faith in God, even when many odds were stacked against her.

I'm so honored to have attended this great institution she started over 120 years ago. The rich roots and education I received were beyond amazing and could only be created with the depth of heart she had for education and equality. I am honored to continue her wonderful legacy many years later. by @restforyoursoles

Year 7 downloading!!! Today marks the completion of my sixth year in business🥳🎉I look forward with great expectation to the seventh year—a year of completion and rest. As I do every year, I post my very first post from 2019 in commemorative style. It so captures what I do even years later. Thank you to everyone who supported me over the years🙏🏽I am so very grateful.

May your year be filled with bountiful blessings and rest✨️☺️

Original post from 2019:
A dear doula friend of mine sent me this amazing illustration posted by Rachelle Garcia Seliga from @innatetraditions that vividly portrays how exploring a minimum of three generations of family history is imperative in understanding how patterns of trauma and suffering can repeat in each generation.

Seliga points out how depression and nutritional deficiencies are intergenerational and that whatever our mothers lacked and/or dealt with, we most likely had passed on to us as well.

Mark Wolynn, author of It Didn't Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle, summed it up precisely: "The history you share with your family begins before you are even conceived. In your earliest biological form, as an unfertilized egg, you already share a cellular environment with your mother and grandmother. When your grandmother was five months pregnant with your mother, the precursor cell of the egg you developed from was already present in your mother's ovaries." pg. 25

Essentially three generations share the same biological background--which can be physical and/or emotional. Likewise, Wolynn points out that the precursor cells of the sperm you developed from were present in your father when he was a baby in his mother's womb.

To sum it up, Seliga poignantly poses the question: how many generations of women/mothers dealt with nutritional deficiencies or depression and post-partum depression? Or you fill in the blank of whatever runs in your family--stress, anxiety, fatigue, etc. Not to forget what the men and fathers in our family lines endured as well. To understand ourselves, we must also understand what the generations before us went through. by @restforyoursoles

Super honored to do a podcast with @discover_divinity (link in IG bio). I'm learning to use my voice again with confidence and share my story. I met her three years ago at a training and she gave me so much hope in her inspiring story of overcoming several autoimmune diagnoses. May you, too, be inspired and blessed.

To our healing🙏🏽☺️

Here's an overview of the podcast from Cynthia:
Today’s episode is not just any podcast episode, it is an episode that exudes one of my passions on the planet 🌍 .

The topic of trauma and nervous system healing is something I care about deeply, not just because of my own journey, but because of the countless 1 on 1 conversations I have had with clients who are silently carrying so much without even realizing it.

✨✨✨So many of us walk through life believing our anxiety, emotional disconnection, or perfectionism is “just who we are.” But what if those are actually responses to trauma? What if your nervous system has been trying to keep you safe all along?

🎙️ In this powerful episode, I sit down with my dear friend and fellow Rapid Eye Technician, Desarae, for a deeply honest conversation about trauma, PTSD, and how true healing begins—not just in the mind, but in the body and spirit.

We talk about:
✨ How trauma can show up in “high-functioning” people
✨ The unseen effects of generational, childhood, abuse, religious wounding and so much more.

✨ What safety in the body really means
✨ And why healing doesn’t demand perfection—only presence

Whether you're in the middle of your healing journey or just starting to question the patterns in your life, this episode is an invitation to slow down, come home to yourself, and know you’re not alone.

💛 If you’ve ever felt like you were "doing it all" but still disconnected… this is for you.
💛 If you’ve ever wondered why you can’t “just get over it”… this is for you.
💛 If you’re ready to feel safe, whole, and free… this is for you.

Let’s talk about the healing no one taught us but every one of us deserves. This episode is raw, real, and rooted in compassion—and it’s available now. 🎧

Lack of memory and/or forgetting parts of your childhood can be a sign of trauma. Shoutout to the people gently remembering and now standing in their power. To your healing🙏🏽 by @restforyoursoles

One of the most profound things my first therapist told me was forgiveness does not mean friendship/reconnection. If the person is unsafe/unchanged, reconnection may never be possible. Learn to grieve that connection and only open it up if/when that person shows genuine change with safe connection. by @restforyoursoles
