A little update to our hours for 2026!

1) Opening at 3:30pm on Wednesdays. 🕰Keeping up with emails, dms, website, maybe launching a newsletter, planning content for the socials, keeping an eye on upcoming releases, and visioning is a whole damn job on its own, so we're making Wednesday mornings an Admin day.

2) A reminder that I'm a dad before I'm a bookseller- so we've got a small closure during school pick up times during the weekdays as long as CPS is in session.

Otherwise, hours are still the same 🤓 taken in Restoried Bookshop by @restoriedbookshop

Happy Banned Books Week, friends!

It’s our favorite time of year to remind you that a large amount of what we carry in-store and our raison d’être is probably on one of those lists somewhere. We’re working to make sure that our communities have access to our stories and to those of other communities, and that’s pretty f’in great. So stop by and pick up a new book that would make the administration mad.

I’m also kinda amazed I haven’t lost that red button over the years and all the moves.

We’ve also got our Asian American 101 Book Club tonight at 7! Let’s get into chapters 3 & 4 of The Latinos of Asia. Bonus points for a book club talking about identity during Banned Books Week.

We will be closed tomorrow (Weds 10/7) so I can talk about immigration policy, thanks to a friend’s invite 🤓

We’ll be back with more books on Thursday and can’t wait to see y’all when you get here!

It’s already Election Season!

Voting is an important tool, and sometimes it helps to have a thoroughly researched support when you get to that marathon of judges down ballot. Thanks to @injusticewatch for their work putting this guide together 👏👏 and thanks to whoever suggested us as a place to pick up a physical copy💛

All that to say- stop by and pick up a FREE copy of the Injustice Watch judicial election guide and if you haven’t already made a plan to vote, it’s a great time to start 🤓

Happy Filipino American History Month, friends!

Am I a day late to the start? Yes.
Do we keep our shelves stocked with FilAm authors year-round? Also and emphatically- YES!

Just a sample from our Southeast Asian American shelf to preview. We also have Filipinx folks repping in our YA, Middle Grade, and Children’s sections- but you’ll have to come by in-person for those. Stop in this week to pick up something new (or something you’ve been telling yourself you’ll get to someday) to read and celebrate the month! Filipino American communities have deep roots in Albany Park and we’re here to celebrate those stories (and also glad to share restaurant recs if you’re looking to level-up the experience) 🤓

“Last week, I had the privilege of representing the North River Commission as a member of the local host committee for Next City’s 2026 Vanguard Conference, an immersive gathering that brought emerging civic and community leaders from across the country to Chicago to learn from our neighborhoods, organizations, and local leaders.

As part of the conference, I moderated an immigration panel at Restoried Bookshop in Albany Park featuring incoming State Representative Miguel Alvelo-Rivera, State Senator Graciela Guzmán, and Cook County Commissioner Jessica Vásquez.

The conversation explored immigration through the lens of Albany Park and Chicago’s Northwest Side…from the impact of federal policies at the neighborhood level and access to essential services, to the role of government, community organizations, and mutual-aid networks in supporting immigrant families.

This conversation reflects so much of NRC’s work. Albany Park has long been shaped by immigrants and refugees who have built businesses, raised families, strengthened our schools, and contributed to the cultural and economic vitality of our community. Our role is not only to serve that community, but also to ensure its experiences and lessons are represented in larger conversations about the future of our cities.

It was especially meaningful to welcome Vanguard participants from across the country to our neighborhood and share lessons from Chicago that they can take back to their own communities.

One takeaway continues to resonate with me: welcoming communities don’t simply happen—they are intentionally built. And NRC is proud to be part of that work every day.”

Hey friends,

Get ready with me as we drop some new titles for y’all this week! Lots of great new stuff on the shelves for any mood you’re looking for and we’ve got a bunch of events coming as well! Stay tuned for an events update (hopefully today).

We’ve been a little overwhelmed the past few weeks, seriously, and keeping up with all the different message channels we have kinda flooded my system. We’re working to dig back out, I promise.

Come through and pick up a book with us today, stay for The Wisdoms & Visions of Zines with @city_bureau (6PM - 8PM). Come through tomorrow at 6:30pm for our Hey Neighbor Book Club to talk about Back for Blood: Never Whistle at Night Part II. Save time on Friday for a special community storytelling event here at the shop where we’re inviting you to share your stories and memories of Albany Park starting at 6:30pm. All that with Banned Books Week around the corner- sheesh!

And let’s go @whitesox!

See you when you get here 🖖🤓

Tomorrow! 🗣 Join City Bureau and Chicago Documenter/Civic Reporting Fellow, Sol Sanchez, for a fun evening focused on all things zines at @restoriedbookshop.

We’ll share the history and origins of zines, discuss their importance as a radical information sharing tool in this cultural and political context, and end with a tutorial with hands-on time to make our own zines!

Participants are encouraged to bring zines to share and trade at our “Pop-up zine library.”

Basic zine-making supplies such as paper, scissors, glue sticks, markers, etc. will be provided but feel free to bring anything special you’d like to add to your zine.

RSVP for free at the link in bio! ✨️
