I’ve been quietly building something new behind the scenes. A direction that’s been calling me for a while. Executive Branding. Because at a certain level, experience isn’t the problem, clarity is. Presence is. Narrative is. Visibility is. Leaders are stepping into bigger roles with bigger expectations, and the old “resume + LinkedIn update” isn’t enough anymore. So I built what my clients have been asking for: a complete portfolio of strategic, branded career assets designed for interviews, board conversations, promotions, and leadership visibility. If 2026 is your expansion year, I’ve built something for you. by @resumebynico
Hi, I’m Nico 👋 RESUME WRITER, CAREER BRANDING SPECIALIST & LAYOUT DESIGNER I don’t do cookie-cutter. I don’t do “responsible for” bullets. I do resumes that read like branding campaigns – sharp writing, clean design, and strategy that makes recruiters stop scrolling. Since 2012, I’ve helped 1,400+ professionals claim their edge, show up with confidence, and land the jobs (and salaries) they thought were out of reach. If you’re looking for different, you’ve found it. by @resumebynico
Most resumes don’t fail because people have bad experience, they fail because they’re written like job descriptions. A modern resume in 2025 needs: • clear brand positioning at the top • tight summary rooted in voice + value • quantifiable outcomes (not tasks) • formatting built for skim-reading • language aligned to target roles I break this down (with examples) in my new blog: How Does a Modern Resume Stand Out in 2025? Link in bio. by @resumebynico
Executive branding. I always start with brand strategy. Getting clear on your mission, vision, unique value prop, target audience, values, approach, leadership messaging, brand tone and personality. So everything we produce from there is succinct, aligned, clear, and confident. The resume, the LinkedIn, speaker sheet, executive bio, case study, and website. You're an entire brand at this point. Clear in who you are and what you offer, IN THE CONTEXT OF WHERE YOU'RE HEADED AND WHO YOU'RE SPEAKING TO. That part is important. Just talking about what you've done without that context just doesn't land right. Many people forget this part. That's why very accomplished executives hire me. You need an outsider, expert perspective. You're too close to your own work! And it just feels sooooo good to be seen and understood. ✅ by @resumebynico
Hey creative job seekers! Yes I'm talking to you product designer, graphic designer, UX designer, creative director, art director, photographer, or brand builder... You need a portfolio site. And it's gotta be gooooood. You need it to show proof of your work, your thought process, approach, and style. And ideally, you have your UVP down pat, your brand, your differentiators, and that's clear and in-their-face obvious. Recruiters and hiring managers will look at your resume for 5 seconds, click on your LinkedIn, check it out for a few more seconds, then click on your portfolio. And it's your portfolio they'll spend the most time on. There's so much to see, to read! And ideally, it's strategically designed, written, and positioned. Like my client's ⬇️ She's getting interviews left and right (yes I did her resume too) and now she's getting compliments on her portfolio site, which I just finished a couple months ago. Want to make an impact on a hiring manager? Make sure all of your career assets are strategic, aligned, and clear as hell. They'll truly appreciate it, and that goes a looooong way. ___ Hi, I'm Nico. 👋 I use words and visuals to help you tell a cohesive and persuasive story to a specific audience. (It's the talent I was born with.) That talent shows up best in resume writing and layout, web design, branding, copywriting, career assets, and marketing collateral. by @resumebynico
I want to talk to you today about the importance and power of creating different resumes if targeting different career paths. Same experience, same skillsets, but the positioning elements on each resume has completely changed. What are the positioning elements? Glad you asked. Headline Brand statement Career highlights Core competences Those are the 4 areas that do more work than your Experience. Most people think the Experience section is where the magic happens. It's not. Experience is proof. Positioning is persuasion. These two resumes belong to the exact same person. Same companies. Same titles. Same accomplishments. One resume positions her for Enterprise Partnerships roles. The other positions her for PMO & Strategic Operations roles. Take a close look. Notice the PMP certification appears after her name on the PMO resume, but not on the Partnerships version. Notice how the brand statements tell two completely different stories, despite being based on the same career. Notice how the Career Highlights focus on entirely different accomplishments and strengths. Notice how the Core Competencies have been rewritten to align with each target path. Notice how her current role includes Key Impacts on the PMO version, but not on the Partnerships version. It's the same role, but far more relevant to PMO opportunities than Partnership roles. There are second pages to both resumes, but the positioning work happens up front. Recruiters make decisions quickly. If the first page doesn't immediately answer, "Why is this person qualified for this role?" you've already made their job harder. The goal isn't to tell your entire career story; it's to tell the right story for the role you're pursuing. Same person. Two completely different narratives. That's personal branding. And that's why my clients get interviews for nearly every role they apply for. by @resumebynico
The job market is ROUGH out there. But not for my clients 😃 I see so many posts on LinkedIn... "It's been 2 years since I've been laid off, submitted over 2000 job applications, and still nothing." Oh how badly I want to shake them, tell them to stop writing their resume themselves (you're not qualified for this job), stop using AI to write your resume (you sound like every👏body👏else, and there's no positioning strategy involved unless you know what to ask/prompt), and just hire the expert who will get you results!! Sure, it's pricey. Ever heard of credit cards? That you can pay off when you get that new role! As early as 2 weeks from now? Just do itttttt. These results are extremely common with my clients. See previous post!! 100% callback success rate still holding strong 14 years later 💪 #joboffer #interviews #resumewriter #resumehelp by @resumebynico
Applied to 9 positions, got interviews at 7. Then final offer with $32K salary increase + signing bonus. You just don't hear that in 2026. Unless you're one of the 1500 special creatures who found and hired me. This is not uncommon, by the way. These are standard results. And my 100% interview success rate is not bull. You just have a hard time trusting. I get it boo, I do too. But yes, I'm selling my resume business so if you want these results, you know where to find me. #resumes #bestresumewriter #resumehelp #linkedinhelp by @resumebynico
I think abandoned parts of us quietly wait. Nearly 20 years after putting paint down, I picked it back up. There's just something really nice about doing something creative that has nothing to do with productivity or making money. (But ofc my entrepreneurial mind is already spinning with ideas for prints and cards and stickers and and and) Anyway, 6 paintings and 2 weeks in. Swipe for the evolution. What should I paint next? by @resumebynico

Obviously, the weight of the human experience has been feeling unbearable lately. I think for a long time I leaned a little too hard on the existential, “none of this really matters” stance because it’s easier. It offers distance, a relief. But this moment in time feels different. The reality of what’s happening, to real people, in real bodies, across the globe, matters more than anything I've ever experienced. Learning how to hold both truths at once, the cosmic perspective and the unbearable truths of this reality, is hard. But maybe that's the point? by @resumebynico
I just refreshed this resume for a health exec client. Her original resume, though very classic, was a dense, text-heavy wall with zero hierarchy. Everything was competing for attention, therefore nothing was really seen. The After is what happens when you rebuild the whole thing around strategy and psychology: how the eye moves, how the brain processes information, how hiring managers make decisions under pressure. Clean layout, intentional spacing, and a visual hierarchy that guides someone straight to the good stuff. This isn’t about making something “pretty.” It’s about making it **readable**. White space, line length, typography, and structure determine whether a hiring manager can actually absorb what you’re saying, or whether they tap out after line two. Readable resumes get read. Readable resumes get understood. Readable resumes get interviews. And before anyone jumps in with the “ATS can’t read this layout” comment… Let me stop you right there. I’ve written 1,450+ modern, two-column, white-space-rich resumes. ATS reads them just fine! Because ATS isn’t out here judging your margins. It’s scanning your content. Does your resume actually prove alignment between where you’ve been and where you’re going? Does it show what makes you different, valuable, and the obvious choice? Does it communicate your impact in a way a hiring manager can understand in 5 seconds? And humans read them even better. 1. Layout controls readability for humans. If your resume is visually chaotic, your brilliance gets buried. 2. Content controls alignment. If your bullets don’t prove you’re the right fit for the roles you want next, layout alone won’t save you. The win comes from the combination: clean layout + aligned content. That’s how you turn a wall of text into a strategic, skimmable, “I get exactly who this person is in 5 seconds” resume. Need help telling a sharper career story?
