Our @right.2roam - @suyinsays reviews 'Our Land', a timely documentary examining who owns England’s countryside, who gets to access it, and how campaigners are challenging centuries-old systems of exclusion in pursuit of a more equitable relationship with land.“What does it mean to own land?” asks @buteblackbird, a co-director of the Right to Roam campaign and one of the key narrators in new documentary Our Land. For her, this question is rooted in themes of belonging and control, and the fact that 92% of the English countryside is inaccessible to the general public – a statistic that she and other campaigners are trying to change. Grierson-shortlisted filmmaker @orbanwallace is interested in these themes too.The film begins with a brief animated introduction written by @robgmacfarlane, the author of Is a River Alive?, foregrounding the history of the land justice debate in the United Kingdom. Through this sequence, we visualise how the enclosure system after the Norman Conquest both carved up land in England and contributed to class systems by concentrating land ownership into the hands of a few elites. This has only become more entrenched over time, as Wallace shows us, through the construction of estates and grand houses built on the wealth accrued from colonial exploitation...Read the entire article for #free at https://www.resurgence.org/magazine/article6667-our-right-to-roam.html - Visit the 'Resurgence & Ecologist magazine' branch of our Linktree (see bio)Our Land (2025) by Orban Wallace (director) is in UK cinemas now. www.ourlanddocumentary.comSuyin Haynes is a London-based Malaysian British journalist interested in storytelling at the intersections of identity, culture and under-represented communities. Peace Is Power is a podcast for people who believe peace is not weakness or passivity but one of the most powerful forces alive. Hosted by @janessagans, former CIA officer, peacebuilder, and founder of @euphrates_institute - the show features conversations with diplomats, artists, activists, veterans, spiritual leaders, and grassroots organizers working to build peace in a divided world. Each episode asks a simple but urgent question: what does it look like to become a peacebuilder right where you are? Peace Is Power is an initiative of Euphrates Institute, which has trained peace leaders from more than 60 countries. If war affects us all, peace must be built by all of us.In this episode of Peace is Power, Janessa Gans Wilder speaks with Satish Kumar, a lifelong peace activist, former Jain monk, and environmental thinker.Satish shares powerful personal stories from his 8,000-mile peace pilgrimage, including his decision to travel without money as an act of radical trust. Drawing on the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave, he reflects on the idea that true power lies not in force or weapons, but in love, nonviolence, and human connection. The conversation moves fluidly between global issues and personal responsibility, touching on political division, conflict, and environmental challenges. Satish highlights that while peace begins within, it must be carried outward through action, communication, and collective effort.Watch the whole episode at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJm0pBQzUMA - Visit the 'FEATURED' branch of our Linktree (see bio)This episode was filmed at Résidence Tallard, a Paris-based program of @kadistkadist and the Fonds de donation AKAT, dedicated to art, creation and social engagement. Peace is not passivity. It is a moral, creative, and spiritual force. And the world needs you to find it; in your relationships, your community, and whatever corner of the world you call home. This is your invitation. This is your moment.Learn more at https://peaceispower.org - Visit the 'FEATURED branch of our Linktree (see bio)#Peace #PeaceIsPower #SatishKumar by @resurgencetrust

Long before climate breakdown entered mainstream political debate, Professor Herbert Girardet argued that economies dependent on relentlessly escalating resource use could never coexist comfortably with the planet’s ecological limits. His work did more than criticise industrial civilisation. It tried to describe what a different relationship with the Earth might look like: human settlements organised around regeneration rather than depletion, economies compatible with ecological systems, and cultures striving to be ecologically literate.Today, as environmental breakdown accelerates across continents, Herbert’s warnings feel less like predictions and more like descriptions of the world already happening around us. But his work continues to offer something increasingly rare: the belief that societies can still change course before ecological breakdown becomes irreversible.
