the crush (1993) follows nick, a young writer who rents a room in the home of a seemingly sweet and charming teenager named darian, played by alicia silverstone. what starts as an innocent friendship quickly turns into something much darker when darian develops an intense obsession with him and refuses to accept that her feelings aren’t mutual.

alicia silverstone plays darian with the perfect mix of charm, jealousy, and unpredictability, making her character both captivating and unsettling. as her obsession grows, nick finds himself trapped in a nightmare he never expected, discovering just how dangerous unrequited feelings can become.

the crush is a psychological thriller about obsession, manipulation, and the terrifying side of teenage infatuation. with its early ‘90s aesthetic and alicia silverstone’s memorable performance, the movie turns what seems like a harmless crush into a chilling story about love gone completely wrong.

10 things i hate about you (1999) is a ’90s teen rom-com about high school, relationships, parties, and the complicated rules that come with dating. the movie follows kat stratford and her younger sister bianca as they navigate love, friendships, and all the drama that comes with it.

patrick verona is the mysterious, rebellious guy who gets paid to take kat out, even though she isn’t exactly interested in dating. as they spend more time together, their relationship starts to become more complicated than either of them expected.

heath ledger plays patrick with a mix of charm, sarcasm, and that effortlessly cool ’90s energy. the role became one of his most memorable performances, especially for the way he brought both the rebellious and softer sides of patrick to life.

Bride of Chucky (1998) brings the killer doll Chucky back in a darker, more comedic take on the franchise. After being resurrected by his former girlfriend, the two set off on a chaotic road trip filled with murder, obsession, and twisted romance.

Jennifer Tilly plays Tiffany, Chucky’s former girlfriend and the woman responsible for bringing him back to life. She’s glamorous, unpredictable, and just as fascinated by violence as Chucky, but their relationship quickly becomes complicated by their equally explosive personalities.

The movie focuses heavily on Tiffany and Chucky’s dysfunctional relationship, mixing horror, dark comedy, romance, and plenty of chaotic moments as Tiffany finds herself drawn deeper into Chucky’s murderous world.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) follows a group of teenagers in the fictional town of Springwood who begin having terrifying dreams about Freddy Krueger, a burned killer who can murder them while they sleep. As the nightmares become increasingly real, Nancy Thompson realizes that she has to find a way to fight Freddy in the dream world before he claims her and her friends.

Johnny Depp made his film debut in the movie as Glen Lantz, Nancy’s boyfriend and one of the teens targeted by Freddy. Although Glen was a relatively small role, it became Depp’s first major acting opportunity and helped launch his career.

His death scene in particular became one of the most memorable moments of the film, and it’s fascinating to look back at A Nightmare on Elm Street knowing that the teenager playing Glen would go on to become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors.

Empire records is a 1995 film that follows a tight-knit group of quirky indie record store employees over the course of one chaotic, music-fueled day. Facing the threat of their beloved shop being bought out and turned into a soul-sucking “Music Town” chain, the crew pulls out all the stops—from illegal gambling to impromptu rooftop concerts—to save the store and keep their chosen family together.

At the heart of the story is Corey Mason, played brilliantly by Liv Tyler. Corey is the quintessential overachieving, straight-A good girl who seems to have her entire life perfectly planned out. But beneath her polished cardigan-and-kilt exterior, she’s unraveling under the intense pressure of perfectionism and a desperate crush on washed-up pop star Rex Manning. Tyler captures that raw, chaotic transition between teenage girlhood and real-world reality with a mix of vulnerability and pure 90s charm.

all work and no play makes jack a dull boy 🪓

the shining a 1980 psychologic horror film produced and directed by stanley kubrick. the film follows jack torrance, a struggling writer, his wife wendy and their young son danny. to work on his writing, he accepts a job at the remote overlook hotel in the colorado rockies, which includes a five-month isolation to take care of the empty hotel.

while heavy winter snow traps the family inside, supernatural forces in the hotel light up jack’s past alcoholism and inner demons, which lead him to slowly descend into madness and attack his son and wife.

danny torrance, jack’s five year old son, possesses psychic abilities know as “the shining”, which include telepathy, clairvoyance and visions of past and future events.

director stanley kubrick builds an eerie atmosphere that makes almost every scene look unsettling. for me, that’s what make this film so interesting. and i honestly got back into editing just because i really wanted to edit the shining again.

Heartbroken and bitter, Joel decides to undergo the exact same procedure at the hands of Lacuna Inc. However, as the technicians systematically wipe his mind while he sleeps, Joel relives his memories in reverse, from their painful breakup to their sweetest beginnings, and realizes midway through that he desperately wants to hold onto her, triggering a frantic, subconscious race to hide Clementine in the dark, forgotten corners of his mind.
