Launching the Emerging Filmmaker Scholarship has been one of the most exciting parts of my career!

The opportunity to mentor, share resources, and make connections for the next generation of filmmakers is what it’s all about. We hear it all the time, “this industry is all about who you know” which is why I believe that as my peers and I enter the next chapter of our careers, we should do what we can to share our knowledge with those coming up right behind us.

My career started in fashion and as much as I loved it, I quickly realized it wasn’t the industry I needed to be in long term.

Transitioning into film has been the best decision I ever made ✨ I’m grateful for the working relationships turned friendships, the collaboration, and the inspiration.

It’s so fun to see everyone’s imaginations run wild and literally create something out of nothing. Filmmakers are some of the most genius, coolest, craziest people I know (you gotta be a lil crazy to pursue this career lol)

Thank you to anyone who has supported my projects along the way, I can’t wait to create more!

Every opportunity I’ve been given, all that I am and all that I will become is because of the sacrifices my family made to give us a better life in the US.

My heart breaks for the families who are being torn apart and treated with so much disrespect.

Please give yourself grace during this time and look to your community for support, I am here for anyone who needs help 🫶🏼

1) What motivated you to pick up a camera?
•
I have a hard time calling myself a photographer because there’s still so much I don’t know about the craft.

It all started when I took some self portraits in my bedroom during the pandemic and it turned into a meditative way to build my confidence and self love.
I know I have an eye for color and composition so that motivates me to build on my skills.

2) What were your primary focuses as you captured these images?
•
When I was invited to be part of this project, I knew instantly that I wanted it to be focused on the history of San Jose. I’m a huge lover of 40s and 50s aesthetics. There’s so much beauty that is stuck in time around the city and if you look close enough you might find it.

This project encouraged me to slow down and really notice the small details of my beautiful city

3 ) What do you want your legacy with photography to be?
•
I want my daughter and any future generations from my lineage to have these precious memories to look back on. I want our stories, our moments of love and joy, to be shared and treasured.

Dolores 🌹

What an honor to be able to make a dress for such a beautiful and talented woman @lacassandra! She puts her heart and soul into her work and this album is a reflection of that.

She reached out to me over a year ago to order this dress inspired by Colombian designer Ruben Vargas from a 90s runway show. At the time, I was about to head to Spain which gave me the special opportunity to source all of the materials out there to find the perfect lavender fabric.

It’s always surreal to see my clothing land in places I would have never imagined. Gracias amiga por la oportunidad ✨ by @retrorubyrae
