In his debut monograph, Heavenly Arms, Reuben Radding (@reuben_radding) presents a body of work of street photographs captured for over ten years. Featuring sixty-three black-and-white images from different times, years and locations, the book presents “a meditation on human interconnectedness, conflict, and the musicality of American life.”

In this interview, Sara Bennet (@sarabennettbrooklyn) speaks to the artist about the creation of this project, discussing topics of editing, sequencing, and curating a cohesive book from a diverse and dynamic personal photographic archive.

The artist shares: “A daily practice has always been important to me. It was central to my life as a musician too. One reason I gravitated toward street photography is that it’s always available.”

“Heavenly Arms” received a 2nd Place Prize in Book Category at the 2025 International Photography Awards, and is available for order at Red Hook Editions (@redhookeditions)

The city is alive. Feels like old times and new vibes to haunt you the rest of your life. The forest renews itself through a cycle of self-fertilization. What you love well, with your pounding heart, will fuel your growth. Why hold anything back? We’re here for such a short time, after all. by @reuben_radding

IG suggested I add “Sweet Home Alabama” to this post. Perhaps it was because corporations hate you. Perhaps it was some other inexplicable reason. I think you can imagine your own music. I think it’s already in a picture. by @reuben_radding
