Today has been a busy day and I almost missed the chance to share: Tomorrow, June 17, lawmakers gather at the Atlanta’s Gold Dome to redraw Georgia’s maps, lines that could weaken the voting power of Black Georgians for years to come.

But we are not going to let those lines be drawn in the quiet!

also tomorrow morning, if you haven’t heard, faith leaders will join the Georgia NAACP and coalition partners for The South Got Sumthin’ to Say—an Interfaith Prayer Service, Pilgrimage for Voting Rights, and Day of Action.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom still demanded. We are not called to wait politely for justice. We are called to show up, speak up, and carry freedom forward.

If your body can carry you there, let it.

This weekend, I am joining clergy and organizers in Selma, Alabama, answering a renewed call to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in defense of voting rights and Black political power across the South.

As many know, recent court decisions weakening the Voting Rights Act have already begun reshaping congressional districts and threatening representation in states across the region — including Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Virginia. This is not an abstract change, is a direct challenge to democracy, dignity, and the hard-won gains of generations who marched, organized, prayed, and risked their lives for the right to vote.

As a Black Unitarian Universalist minister, I am grateful for the organizing by Nicole Pressley & coordination by Michael J Crumpler for their work of gathering other Black UUs to show up in Selma to say clearly: we will not be silent while representation is dismantled and history repeats itself.

I carry with me the prayers, hopes, and commitments of UUCA & our Atlanta region as I join the “All Roads Lead to the South” mobilization alongside partners including the NAACP, Black Voters Matter, Faith in Action, Side With Love, and many grassroots organizations throughout the South.

Please hold all who are traveling, organizing, and marching in your hearts this weekend. And may we continue the sacred work of building a democracy where every voice matters and every person belongs.

“No Kings” rallies & marches sometimes get criticism from some of my socialist and leftist comrades, but it is clear that folks are using it as a gateway into deeper liberation work.

As hard as it is to accept, some people are JUST NOW getting activated. And showing up in large numbers—even without full agreement—matters.

Spaces like “No Kings” are exactly where we can push for transgender liberation, immigration justice, and disability justice—because even within progressive spaces, we’re still working to ensure everyone is truly included and affirmed.

So showing up and singing in those spaces has be come a part of the strategy. “No Kings” rallies & marches is about visibly Siding With Love, and connecting to people/organizations who are doing the ongoing work to help the movement go further.

I’m glad i was able to show up today. I’m immensely grateful for the leadership of #singingresistanceATL who lead folks in singing the march around the capitol. (I was too into the singing to take pics or videos but I’d love if other folks could share or tag me on them) by @rev.e.n.hill

Protesting in Minnesota and here with UUCA - Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta taught me this: more connected people are safer people. What’s happening there is already happening here.

ICE activity is increasing in Atlanta. Inhumane detention didn’t start last month—and it won’t stop unless we stay visible, connected, and resourced.

Please take a moment to support Rodney Taylor—a Georgia barber, community leader, and double amputee detained by ICE at Stewart Detention Center. His health is rapidly declining after medical care and basic accommodations were revoked. His fiancé, Pierre, is fighting for his life and freedom.

Dear Beloved Community,

I’ve arrived back in Atlanta safely, and I want to share honestly where my heart is as I return.

I am holding deep sadness and frustration in the wake of recent violence in Minnesota. Even after our time of witness and accompaniment, the harm has not paused. News of another ICE agent shooting an observer has landed with a familiar and devastating weight. It deepens the grief already carried by communities living under constant fear and surveillance, and it stirs a righteous anger that such violence continues to be normalized and repeated.

My heart is especially with the family, loved ones, and broader community of support for those most impacted by the terror of ICE. I am sending so much love to the community members who continue to organize, protect one another, and tell the truth in the midst of this political violence—often at great personal cost.

In the days ahead, I’ll share further reflections as I continue to process all that I witnessed and learned.

In this moment what I know is, whatever lies ahead, we will face it together. What I know is, there are so many more hearts & minds in this country who align with love and who are working for a better future than there are forces of destruction and chaos. Each of us has an important part to play in our own contexts and unique gifts, and together, we will discern how to join in solidarity to meet this moment, as one body of love.

Thank you for being a community capable of holding complexity—of sitting with sorrow, naming anger, and still making room for care and hope. I am grateful to return to you.
