“We are angry. Holy angry.” Days after Donald Trump threatened faith leaders and posted a viciously racist trope to social media, Pastor Michael McBride, Pastor Jamal Bryant, Reverend Dr. Jacqueline Thompson, and Reverend Ciera Bates-Chamberlain remind us what our ancestors taught us. “Anger without love is destruction. Love without anger is compliance. We need both … Our ancestors didn’t just survive oppression—they fought it with love sharpened by holy rage.”

In Chicago, we stand united against militarization of our communities.

At today’s press conference, Rev. Ciera Bates-Chamberlain of Live Free Illinois reminded us that real safety doesn’t come from troops on our streets—it comes from investing in our people, our neighborhoods, and our future.

We echo her call: Chicago does not need federal overreach. We need resources, respect, and a commitment to justice.

Together, we resist fear. Together, we build peace. Together, we keep us safe.

Honored to speak on the NAACP National Call this evening led by Dr. @zinacpierre and nearly 400 people committed to the work of justice, freedom, and equality.

Grateful for the opportunity to lend my voice to this movement and stand alongside those who continue to organize, mobilize, and fight for our democracy. The work continues! ✊🏾🖤

My heart goes out to this family. This baby lost her life this weekend. I know her mother and loved ones are experiencing unimaginable pain. This is devastating. Once again, a young life has been taken during something as ordinary as walking up the street…minding her own business and simply living her life.

After reading about this incident, I noticed the woman accused was described as having a criminal record. I can’t help but wonder…are we adequately distinguishing between a history of criminal behavior and a history of untreated mental illness? We cannot continue to criminalize mental health. County jails are not mental health clinics, and they are not substitutes for the treatment, supportive housing, crisis intervention, and ongoing care that people with serious mental illness may need.

When someone is experiencing a mental health crisis and presents a documented danger to themselves or others, our systems must have a way to intervene appropriately before tragedy occurs while also protecting the rights and dignity of the person experiencing the crisis.

I pray that we identify real solutions so that another child, another mother, and another family never has to experience this kind of unimaginable loss. Praying for the family, the community, and everyone impacted by this tragedy. by @revciera

Wait what did she admit to live on social media? Y’all about stealing elections. This is the chairman of Will County Republican Party. @illinoissbe @ilattygeneral please investigate immediately. There are people who can testify that unique names like Latoya or Martinez mysteriously had issues with signatures. They have disproportionately allocated voting hours making it difficult for Black and Brown people to vote some hours are 9a-3p. This is right in our backyard. Will county you must vote and make sure that your vote counts. The clerk is on the ballot and hold these folks accountable. #wedemandjustice #organizethechurch #livefree #electionfraud by @revciera

🚨 Don’t miss this week’s powerful Chicago Tribune op-ed from faith leaders @pastorpfleger @revciera @otismossiii and Rabbi Seth Limmer

Chicago’s progress in reducing gun violence is real—but it is fragile. We need permanent, accountable infrastructure for the life-saving work already led by outreach workers, faith communities, organizers, survivors, and neighborhood leaders. 🕊️🏛️

A Department of Gun Violence Reduction would not require new funding—it would bring coordination, transparency, and lasting commitment to protecting life.

Last August was Chicago’s safest August since 2011, yet 39 lives were still lost to gun violence. Every life matters. 🕯️

Chicago must act before another family is left grieving. The City Council should advance this ordinance. ✊🏾
