It’s the 10 year anniversary of my dance home @revivedanceco so when I was asked to do a feature in the @revivecencoast season video as an original company member I was so freakin stoked. Something I haven’t talked a lot about is that I didn’t really commit to dance until I was in college. I was terrified and didn’t really see potential in myself because of all of the stereotypes that get thrown at you as a young human trying to navigate your passion for the arts. I was NOT GOOD… let’s just put it plainly.🤣 @princess_ajani and @miz_unique_s saw potential though, took me to rehearsal one day and introduced me to @jaclili . Before I knew what hit me, I was rehearsing, performing and winning awards as a ReVive founding member. I had found my Dance Family (or rather they found me 🤔😉). Revive is the most naturally inclusive movement space I have ever come across and I am so grateful that the universe gave me such a phenomenal foundation. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today and I’m not just saying that. Go check out the full season video on the @revivecencoast page and stay tuned for what’s to come this season 😘 Special thank you to some of my fave humans @princess_ajani @miz_unique_s and @jaclili for inviting me back into this space but more importantly, being the backbone of my dance career. ✨ Alt text: several clips from the ReVive Dance Company season video. It features Aly Corvin dancing from her wheelchair in tall white boots, Aly sitting at a bar with friends and clips featuring the founders listed above. The lighting is moody and the vibes are confident night-life. #Revive #IndustryDancer #DanceCompany #WheelieGirl #10YearAnniversary by @revivecencoast
@revivecencoast and @revivedanceco are truly my dance home and I love them both so so much. Getting to come back to perform with @revivecencoast was truly a treat. Dance is an art form, and when we encourage people of all ability levels to engage in dance, we are welcoming in new perspectives to the art. 🖼️ 💃Plus it does WONDERS for our mental health! As for accessibility and why I go up stairs when things aren’t accessible? Well… I really don’t like being told no. More importantly though, it is SO important that we show the people in charge of design, that we WANT to have access to these spaces. I’m sick of the “well not all spaces are for everyone. That’s just how it is and it sucks but it’s not my problem “ kind of attitude. That comes from a major disconnect. We HAVE the technology. We HAVE the privilege overall to make these spaces accessible! The issue, is that those lucky enough to have their pockets lined and can to do something about it, just don’t have enough “reason” to. So let me be the reason. I will keep showing up in spaces not meant for me until things start to change. This has gone on too long!!!! PSA: ReVive did not “make” anyone crawl up those stairs and they were frustrated with us as well. It was my doing. It’s not their fault the place was inaccessible. One day these won’t be factors that lean into creative vision but right now they do and that’s something I’m going to take advantage of as much as possible!!! As for the location, I won’t be posting it personally because the employees were EXTREMELY kind!!!! They are not made of money and it would be a PRETTTYY penny to make this space accessible. While I wish we all had access in the forefront of our minds, that just isn’t realistic and I refuse to educate people by shaming them. 🫶🏼 Love you all. Stay safe. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!! And as always, I’ll see you at the next adventure. ✨😘 #Disabled #Stairs by @revivecencoast
