𝘈𝘕𝘈𝘔𝘕𝘌𝘚𝘐𝘚

The work of remembering is done not so much for the sake of uncovering the truth as for rediscovering the imaginary and recuperating the capacity to live.

This publication contains my photographs of abandoned psychiatric centers, prisons, nursing homes, burial grounds and related facilities.

Blissymbols [ unique graphic symbols invented by C.K. Bliss © 1949 ] are interspersed throughout the book with my personal writing. Thoughts are translated in Russian to harness emotion of black earth.

𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘦

𝘋𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘋𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘺 𝘜𝘭𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩

One morning, driving west from Buffalo, I saw a frame house abandoned by the roadside. It was surrounded by sumac trees and tiger lilies. Each floor joist had fallen, and in the assembly, halfway vanished, a woman was sitting in a wheelchair.

This publication contains a collection of digitally restored images that I retrieved from the now-collapsed house, aling with handwritten letters, and my own personal writing and photographs.
