The electric vehicle market is expected to continue its expansion with individual drivers as well as commercial transit vehicles. Ford has just announced that they have booked 10,000 orders for the 2022 E-Transit electric van, 1,100 of which were ordered by Walmart, in addition to the 5,000 electric vans that Walmart ordered earlier this month from General Motors.

According to the head of data and analytics for J.D. Power, the automotive industry’s global struggle with limited inventory and high demand continues, as the price for used and new vehicles continues to climb. An estimated 4.5 to 5 million consumers are waiting to purchase vehicles as the global microchip shortage, which began in 2020, has neither improved or worsened.

A recent executive order from the Biden Administration set a goal to have roughly 50% of new cars sold in the U.S. be zero-emission by 2030, including electric, hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
