WELCOME TO THE WE UNIVERSE!!! Winter Elements is premiering tonight at the Depot in SLC and then hits a 50+ city tour!

To say I’m proud of these women is the understatement of the year. They are BEING and MAKING the changes they want to see in this world.

Rachael Burks at I comprise one segment among many in this feature length ski film which chronicles a range of women across the ski industry from athletes to the less heralded roles behind the scenes of media, ski resort grooming operations, brands, products, and snow forecasting. We get to experience the whole movie for the very first time alongside the rest of you.

I still get goosebumps watching the trailer, so I can only imagine I’ll be levitating in the theater by the end of tonight.

I hope you can join us! And if not, you must try to catch the in-person experience on the big screen as it tours the country! by @rewikstrom

From a point-and-shoot camera as a kid to becoming one of the most respected photographers in the Wasatch, Re Wikstrom has spent decades capturing the spirit of skiing in Utah. Her mission is simple. Put more powerful images of women athletes into the world.

Re Wikstrom (@rewikstrom) recognized the dearth of women in ski media early in her career. With a camera in hand, she set out to change that. Focused on photographing female skiers skiing—not posing—she captured many of the early all-women cover shots. Over two decades later, her work and mentorship has inspired the rising generation of female skiers and photographers. Read the full story in print in Issue 165, The 2026 Photo Annual.

Growing up in Stamford, CT, the first thing @rewikstrom would do with a ski magazine was flip right to the photos. The images captivated her. She’d review the photo credits and, over time, noticed there weren’t many women in front of and behind the lens. So, after college, she made it her mission to do something about it.

As both a freelance photographer and in her previous roles as Senior Photographer, Managing Photo Editor, and Marketing Photo Manager at Backcountry.com, Wikstrom has spent the last 20 years creating more space for women in the outdoor media space, even publishing an annual “LadyShred” calendar series aimed at celebrating the many incredible athletes in her community.

We sat down with Wikstrom to learn more about her path to photography and what motivates her work. Hit the link in bio to read the next installment in our Core Creators series. taken in Utah by @rewikstrom

Winter Elements Premier WENT OFF in Salt Lake City last night!!!

I did not take enough photos! Fail!

IMMEASURABLE THANKS TO Rachael Burks for letting me tag along and chase her with my camera (2 decades and counting!) in our shared vision for changing a small piece of the world and “signing” the eternal ski friendship contract. She keeps saying, “I can’t believe we’re in a film segment together!?” but I think I’m the one who really can’t believe it! PINCH ME! @rachaelburks

AND a HUGE THANK YOU to @moonrise.create for sharing our story, carrying this torch forward and continuing to light the way and light up even more pathways through the universe! @izmottephoto @sbeamrobbins @ktcooney @_schlag_ @kristie.ryan

This is just the beginning of their 50+ tour stop, and while they are in year ~3 of Girl Winter, I know it’s still just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for women in the ski industry and they have so much more to add to this universe. I CANNOT WAIT!

And one more shout out to Michael Brown of Sweetgrass productions, because his idea to pitch my story as a short film for an Alta series, and his insistence that Iz La Motte take the lead on directing and filming that project, was the proverbial flap of the butterfly wings that eventually led to sharing this combined story of mine and Rachael’s as part of a feature length ski film. 🙏🏼 @mikaljamesbrown @sweetgrassp @altaskiarea by @rewikstrom

How it started: 3 friends discovered that zero women had ever completed the Park City Point to Point on a single speed, and thus determined they had to fix that. They figured at least 1 of them could get the job done. Rumor has it that Rachael was the original instigator and unfortunately she wasn’t able to race this year, but damn she was there in full force to support on race day. And you know… someone will need to try and beat the record next year anyway!

“I treat each aid station like a tight 5 at a comedy club” - Ham Donut overheard at the finish.

Hannah Dhonau riding into the aid station and the cut-off timer at mile 53.3 at PCMR with about 15 min to spare.

Loose estimates on her ride time vs stopped time seem to corroborate the above quote 😂 That’s how one single speed record maker gets it done as the first of two women in 2026 to ever finish the @parkcitypoint2point on said single speed.

And may I also point out that the SS is a HARD TAIL (75 miles and over 10k vert, I will remind you all!!!) taken in Park City Mountain by @rewikstrom

Jackie had ~3 minutes to spare as she approached the PCMR/First Time aid station at mile 53.3 and the 3:30pm CUT OFF TIME that determines if a racer is allowed to even try for the finish. I HAVE NEVER seen such focused determination in her eyes. Talk about being in the zone. This was also in a section of course that had been slightly changed RIGHT BEFORE race day, but there were people there to call out the surprise (and very sharp) corner towards the tents, AND to relay that she needed to pass the Scott tent in order to make that cut off. She had only a brief moment to refuel, stay focused on the snacks she needed, and get going ahead of the sweep team.

Hannah hit the finish at 11 hrs 58 min making history as the first woman to finish the Park City Point to Point on a single speed, dust-caked and salt-encrusted, greeted by a warm welcome and a foamy Coors. Mmmmmmm.
