hi flower friends, june is soon closing out on a beautiful wave of flowers that reached so many of you; we were uplifting teachers, celebrating graduations and other milestones, and delighting dance students and instructors alike. its been the busiest june i have ever had and i thank you all so much for being part of this local flower renaissance. the hustle of finishing up planting + farm planning colliding with so many gorgeous flowers to cut and condition and sling into bouquets is always a feat of enduring + resilience.

june taught me lessons; humbled me, fed my soul, and continued to remind me that the best things in life are grown with care, shared with love and remembered joyfully. that community is everything, that we all matter.

the beautiful colors and textures of the flowers of spring are now giving way to a more summery flair + mood. i can’t wait to show you what is coming! ✨ 🌸 💐

hello, hello! apparently its been a busy and full summer with little time to post to the grid. i admit i am happiest growing the flowers, creating the bouquets + arrangements and getting them to you and watching your elation and pleasure when you see them, and i am less so with the posting + the screens and algorithms. my work flow simply flows best with more attention to the flowers, and the end results passed with care to your hands and your vases.

summer flung me into the deepest joy, the most precious time spent growing, planning, and learning, all the while navigating the ups and downs of flower farming. there were many a dead plant, missed succession sowings, crops that did not thrive alongside flowers that blew my mind with their impeccable blooms and new customers who enthusiastically support rewild and our commitment to keeping local flowers front and centre.

the season, our seventh, has been nothing short of spectacular. the flowers continue to be my muse, my therapy, my offering of something positive and genuine and uplifting to your life.

we will be in vancouver tomorrow, september 27th. catch our pop up and come say hi to your flower farmer/florist at the @commercialstreetcafe 9am til sold out. much love flower pals.

spring peonies, among the finest jewels bobbing on long stems, coated in dew and drying in the morning warmth. this means i must put down my coffee cup and scurry, up and down rows, cutting the softening orbs to get them put away into the cooler before the sun cracks their demure veneer of guard petals and they start to burst open.

cutting them just so, at the perfect stage, is a dance of careful planning, part luck, and part mysterious rhythms. i want them to open for you, not in the field, so the dance stops and starts again several times on warm sunny days. tasks are prioritized by the sun and how long it was since i last checked the peonies. we call it the marshmallow stage; squishy like a marshmallow.

the stride of spring is quickening. light bounces, shadows shorten, lists grow with a life force of their own. a flower farm in spring is a wondrous place. morning coffee in hand, stepping outside, i begin with the flock, unlatching their pop door and i watch with adoration as they eagerly descend the ramp to forage. i check on the seedlings hardening off in the shade, spritzing them with a water wand and then i carry on to open the greenhouse. warming air rushes past me as i fasten the doors open. a hummingbird darts past me. more seedlings are growing on.

from all around me birdsong fills the quiet gaps with lilting notes of timeless calming. i settle into a harvest of flowers in the coolness of the morning: today the frilly and fragrant heirloom narcissus, whose double bonnets are just unfurling. i pluck them one by one, and when my hands are full, into their waiting water bucket they go. long, sturdy green stems hold their sunshiny blooms in tones of buttercream, saffron and gold. yolk oranges and soft corals. a chorus of cheer and ephemeral delight. i smile, imagining that the eager customers who have ordered these will be thrilled.

like a song you love + listen to over and over, each year i push play, and grow anemones for that continued surge of moody blues + violets that flood my senses with happiness. i cannot get enough of this spring flower, in her cool toned palette with that striking black mascara-eyed center.

last year’s plants are pushing new growth and this year’s newly transplanted babies are leafing out. it won’t be long until i have scoops of blooms for you. 💙 💜 🩷

the ending of the shortest day,
that followed the longest night.
calling back the light,
enchanted by the glow of flame,
in the palm of my woolen-clad hand.

the days inch closer
to summer solstice now,
six months
of gradually lengthening days.
the sun
will once again warm us,
and hope
will once again shine.

we had a proper frost last night. this is known as ‘frostmas’ within the flower farm community, a term describing the magical austerity of the crystallized + frosted petals of the tender flowers that will gently succumb to the cold as they warm up. it is jack frost’s personal signature etched on the edges and folds of the flowers, and queues the official end of the flower farming season for 2025. the dahlias shimmer and appear sugared; icy, glittering wonder in the soft morning light as i wander the rows with my cameras and coffee, shedding a tear of both sadness and relief, and bidding the beautiful flowers farewell. the season has been good to us here at rewild, and now i press on to field clean up and bulb planting, scheming and dreaming of next spring! scroll through to see the magical kiss of frost.

hey september …

i am still here and i might be officially buried in flowers and weeds, both towering high enough to part like curtains as i walk the flower field rows. the amaranth grew 6’ tall and the sunflower successions are all blooming at once. lollipop dahlia blooms bounce and topple into their tired restraints, and i cannot imagine anything more glorious right now than the tumult and tangle of this oasis of a flower farm, as i relinquish all control and let it all be. there will be winter rest soon enough and right now is a time to embrace beauty and this rewilding botanical wilderness instead of constant planning and refining and editing. birds are snacking on weeds gone to seed, tree frogs are croaking, nestled amongst branch piles long forgotten about beside the compost heap i never turn that has still somehow provided me with abundant compost gold for newly planned planting rows. a caterpillar scurries for cover as i remove its cover of weeds from the transplanted perennials, and bees are digging burrows into the soil of the gladiolus beds. who am i to interrupt this magical orchestra?

i love subscription days. this week was busy at rewild! - back to back subs on thursday, friday and saturday. i love knowing the bright light of these flowers lifted your week, brought a little nature vibe into your home, brought a calming ritual to your days as you tended and cared for your blooms. on porch drop days i love the familiar vases that greet me to receive your bouquets, each like a familiar friend. i am elated you have chosen our flowers; my gratitude runs as deep as the strongest roots, and as broad as the airy canopy of blooms in my flower field. thanks for choosing me to rewild your days.

warm or cool? i am digging the cool brights this season. tones of summer sangria, smashed berries and jewel tones. and can’t deny the warmth and happiness brought by the coastal sunset tones too.

how are you feeling friends? how’s the weather where you are? our summer has settled in warm, muggy, and with dryer soil than i prefer for overall plant happiness. irrigation is stepped up on the timers. summer annuals will hit their stride in the next ten days and i am here for it. unfortunately so will the weeds! 🤣🥹 also here for that. many i am leaving in place as i have found lady bug larva, soldier beetles and hoverflies all enjoying them and i know they eat massive quantities of aphids and thrips. as always summer is a tumult of long days, messes at every turn, a juggle of to-do and to-plant lists. i am already planning + ready to start plants for 2026!

cooling down the days this week while working with the blues. we have entered a brief heat wave here at rewild, and we are a bit sluggish, taking lots of breaks and keeping skin covered while the sun is strong. and sipping lots of fresh raspberry smoothies!

the chickens are fanning their wings under the currant bushes to stay cool and indigo the farm cat sleeps in the mint patch. i am loving this warm hit of summer and making it work! is it hot where you are? what are your keep cool + refreshed tips?
