ReWild The Wild 🐎

I’ve been documenting the wild horse herds of the American West, because they deserve to be respected as a living legacy. They aren’t just stunning animals-they are a vital part of the biodiversity of our ecosystems, they are stewards of the land!

🌱 Mitigating wildfires by clearing out hazardous overgrowth.
🌱 Aerating the ground with their hooves.
🌱 Nourishing the soil with nutrient-rich manure and reseeding the landscape.
🌱 Digging vital watering holes that sustain themselves and a variety of other wildlife.

🌿 Please share this post to spread the benefits of wild horses.

Throughout history wild horses have been a profound inspiration.

An excerpt from Shakespeare’s first published poem (1593), “Venus and Adonis” beautifully exemplifies the untamable wild nature of human desire.

In this specific section Adonis’s horse breaks away from its reins, choosing to run free with a wild mare.

„For through his mane and tail the high wind sings. Fanning the hairs, who wave like feathers’ wings.“ - William Shakespeare

Choosing legacy—protecting the wild so future generations can thrive.
🌿💚🐎

For me, wildlife photography is more than just taking photos of animals; it is a commitment to sharing the sacred rhythm of the wild. Whether it is the thundering hooves of the stallions or the peaceful bighorns, every life in the various ecosystems is worth protecting. 🌿💚

May we all be the voice for the voiceless to ensure their wellbeing.

The Pryor Mountain wild horses are one of the most historic and genetically unique herds in America—and right now, they are facing an immediate crisis.

These incredible horses still carry the rare, primitive traits of their ancient ancestors. If you look closely, you can see these distinct features:

🐎 Two-tone manes and tails
🐎 Zebra-like striping on their legs
🐎 A distinct, dark dorsal stripe running right down their backs
🐎 Faint “spider webbing” patterns across their faces

On October 13, 2026, @thecloudfoundation is heading to court to try and block the upcoming roundup.

If they can’t stop it, the Bureau of Land Management will begin removing horses on October 19. They are targeting horses under the age of 20 for removal, leaving behind an aging population unable to sustain the herd.

Currently, there are only 187 wild horses roaming across 40,000 acres of Montana and Wyoming. There is absolutely no reason to thin them out!

This is the historic homeland of the legendary wild stallion Cloud. His bloodline is still out there right now in famous offspring and descendants like Encore, Mato Ska, Pride, and Acero.

If we lose this herd, we lose a completely irreplaceable piece of wild history. It can’t be restored!

Beyond their history, these horses are vital to keeping the ecosystem alive:
🌱 They mitigate devastating wildfires by clearing out dry, hazardous brush.
🌱 Their hooves naturally aerate the earth while their manure reseeds the landscape.
🌱 They dig watering holes that sustain themselves and dozens of other wildlife species.

Please don’t stay silent on this. Here is how you can help today:
1️⃣ Share this post to your stories to spread the word.
2️⃣ Tag friends in the comments who care about wildlife and conservation.

Some nostalgic footage of Wild horses from Wyoming’s McCullough Peaks. It’s fascinating to watch herd dynamics in action.

Lead Stallion, Tahlequah and Lieutenant, Thor, work together to bring up the rear, keeping an approaching band of bachelor stallions at bay, while Taboo, lead mare, safely navigates in front.

The world was made possible from the backs of horses. Please ~ Never forget. . . 🐎

Share this to remind people of the importance of horses, wild and domestic. 💚

🐎 No other animal in history has been such an integral part of our lives, and has helped the progression of humankind. They have carried us through celebrations, battles, parades, transported mail cross country, pulled wagons, buggies, carts, plowed fields, and worked ranches. They have been used for pleasure, competition and racing.

💚 These sentient creatures are incredibly important for our landscapes. Wild horses deserve to continue doing what they do best, fire mitigation by eating back the overgrowth, reseeding and nourishing the soil with their manure, digging wells for themselves and other wildlife, and aerating the ground with their hooves.

Be the voice they can’t be to protect them and ensure their wellbeing.

Wild horses are the living pulse of a healthy ecosystem! 💚🐎

It’s not just about the herds; it’s about every fox, bear, bighorn and far more that shares their home. Montana’s Pryor Mtn HMA (herd management area) displays this diversity of geography and wildlife incredibly well.

By grazing the land and reseeding the landscape, wild horses sustain the sacred rhythm that allows all species to thrive together. 🌿🐎

Swipe through to meet the hidden neighbors of the herd. They all belong here, wild and free, on the land they were born on!
