Amsterdam, you were a vibe. 🇳🇱⚽✨

We kicked off Atlassian Team ’26 Europe with **First Touch by Rewind** at the iconic Johan Cruijff ArenA, bringing together our customers, partners, and friends from across the Atlassian community.

And we had a very special guest 👀

Dutch football legend **Ronald de Boer** joined us for a live Q&A, shared stories from his incredible career, and met with our guests. A few lucky attendees even went home with signed memorabilia. ⚽🙌

Great people. Great conversations. An unforgettable venue. The perfect start to an exciting week in Amsterdam.

Your auditor doesn't care that GitHub is reliable. They care whether you can prove your code, history, and project metadata will survive a bad day, and that you can show the evidence.

Redundancy inside a single provider is not a backup. Both SOC 2 (recoverability) and ISO 27001 (independent, tested backups) point beyond GitHub's built-in redundancy to an independent copy you control.

Plenty of teams walk into an audit assuming a control they never implemented.

We've been conditioned to treat git clone as an insurance policy. It isn't. A clone copies your code, and code is only a fraction of what lives in your GitLab project. Issues, merge requests, wikis, snippets, CI/CD config, and project metadata don't come down with it.

This guide lays out the honest GitLab landscape (exports, API scripting, and third-party tooling) and how to apply the 3-2-1 rule properly.

Does GitHub back up your data? Not the way most engineers assume. GitHub keeps its platform highly available and can restore a deleted repo within 90 days. But it does not keep a recoverable backup of your data that you can roll back to after a bad merge, a rogue automation, or a departing admin.

Think of GitHub as your landlord and your repo as your apartment. The landlord keeps the building standing. What's inside your unit, the issues, PR threads, boards, and wikis, is yours to protect.

Does Atlassian back up your data? Yes, but not in the way most people assume. Atlassian backs up its own platform for disaster recovery on its side. It does not run a service that lets you restore your own Jira issues or Confluence pages after you delete them, break them with a bad automation, or lose them when an admin walks out the door.

Platform availability and your data recovery are two different guarantees.

Here's the hardest truth about backup, said plainly: a Jira backup app can only restore what it captured while it was already running. Install it after a deletion and it cannot bring back what was lost before it existed. No retroactive setting, no hidden archive.

Think of it like a security camera. It shows you last night, but only if it was recording last night.

The fix is simple and it's the only one that works: install before you need it.

Deleting a Confluence page and deleting a whole space are two very different problems. A deleted page usually lands in the space trash. A deleted space takes its pages with it, and there isn't always a simple undo waiting for you.

If you're in that moment right now: stop making changes, check the trash, confirm whether the space itself is gone, and open an Atlassian support ticket immediately. The clock is not your friend.

Many SaaS users have lost data at some point. This isn't a rare freak event. The teams who recover cleanly aren't lucky, they're prepared.

Deleted a GitHub repo? You likely have 90 days to restore it from account settings, as long as it wasn't permanently deleted, the name hasn't been reused, and (for forks) the network still allows it.

That's the good news. The honest part: those conditions catch people out, and a local clone gets your code back but not your issues, pull requests, releases, or settings.

Deleted a Jira issue you didn't mean to? Deep breath. You may be able to recover it if you act fast, and speed is the single biggest factor you control right now.

Our step-by-step guide walks you through exactly what to do: check your project's trash, stop making changes, search for traces of the issue, and contact Atlassian support immediately. Retroactive recovery is not guaranteed, and native deletion can be permanent.

The only reliable path to a clean restore, with comments, attachments, and metadata intact, is a third-party backup that was already running before the deletion. Here's why, and what to try today.
