Here are 30 crocheted whales, one whale for every dose of radiation over the past six weeks, all so I can say..... I'M WHALE-Y GLAD TO BE DONE!!!!

For the next five years I'll be monitored and scanned every few months, but I'm officially cancer-free as of now and so flipping happy (and Rex is too)!!!

April is Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Month!

Head and neck cancers comprise 4% of all cancers, and if caught early have an 80% survival rate. Salivary gland cancers are an even smaller group, making up approximately 6% of all head and neck cancers. Typical early signs are a lump or sore that does not go away, or a change in saliva or voice. Cancers of the head and neck can form in the oral cavity (lips, tongue, gums, cheeks), throat, voice box, paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity, or salivary glands.

I created Rex's IG page not just to have a place to share my excessive amount of photos of him and my cats, but also as a platform for advocacy of causes that matter to me. Awareness months not only help to spread information (honestly before I was diagnosed I didn't even know you can get cancer in your salivary glands), but they also help to reach others and let them know that they're not alone.

So, if y'all are willing, I would love if you'd join me in spreading awareness this month by posting your own posts and/or stories wearing maroon and white with the hashtags #hncawareness (to join others worldwide this month) and #hncawarerex (so I can selfishly see all of y'all amazing peeps and your pets). Oh and tag me please because I'm actually very terrible at checking hashtags 😂

Cancer f'ing sucks, and while you always know there's a possibility that anyone can get it, nothing really prepares you to get the call that YOU have it. But, I've got a great prognosis and my doctors are confident in their treatment plan and that we've caught it early, so I'm prepared to kick cancer's bum alongside my most handsome nurse-pup 🥰🐕 (and my hubby is pretty darn cute too lol 😝)

Also PSA - if you've got a sus lump, go get it checked out. Don't worry about seeming paranoid. Statistically women are less likely to go see their doctors about concerns, and we're less likely to be heard. So we've gotta advocate for ourselves and keep our health as top priority!!

I apologize for being MIA for the past few weeks; there's just been a lot to process. I appreciate everyone who's reached out through my stories even if I haven't always been quick about responding ❤️

I've debated about sharing here (honestly I've debated sharing at all with anyone), but I know that we get through things when we lean on our communities, and all of y'all here on Rex's page have always been a great community to me even if 90% of us have never met before lol.

So anyway, there's the update from me 🤪 and I'll do my best to share more fun pics of Rex! Luckily walks with Rex are a prescribed MUST from my doctor 😝🥰

Super excited that Rex was picked as @bullybookclub Pet of the Month this month! I was in the middle of zero cell service Oregon for the past week so this was a great surprise to come back to!!I'm also late on my monthly book review for the same reason 🥲. I actually read #NoraGoesOffScript by @annabelmonaghan several months ago when my best friend recommended it to me, and I absolutely loved it so I'm always glad for an opportunity to chat about it with others. I powered through it in less than a week because it was so fun. I found it to be the perfect cheesy rom-com and I could totally see it being made into a movie and I'd love that too. The two main characters are hilarious and adorable; it's hard not to love them both. 5 stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

As Rex's eyesight has been getting worse, he's started having a hard time with walking outside - the sunlight clearly bothers him and it makes him not want to walk. We decided to try out some doggy sunglasses and they worked so well!! He doesn't love wearing them for a long time but he's no longer bothered by the sun; he is back to prancing around and enjoying his walks. And he looks so freaking cool 😎😎 by @rex.on.insta

It's @bullybookclub review day! I actually read The Correspondent by @virginia.l.evans back in January for another book club, and it's easily my favorite book I've read in the past year. It's a unique style, told entirely through letters, but it's really beautiful and there's so much depth to all the characters. I did not expect to love it as much as I did! 5 stars 🌟

The next month we read Never Let Me Go since the main character in The Correspondent raved about it and wrote to the author. It was another great read, and particularly interesting to me since I was watching Orphan Black at the time (that's a hint that's also a minor spoiler). 4 stars 🌟

It's @bullybookclub review day! This month we read a memoir by the incredible Billy Porter, who I'm not going to tag lest he be horrified by my Photoshop job 🥲.

I loved this book! Tbh I wasn't familiar with Billy Porter before this book but his humor and method of storytelling was so wonderful; I found myself completely engrossed throughout the entire book. He had a very difficult young life but it's incredible how much he made of himself and how incredibly talented he is. 5 🌟 rating.

PS this very obviously real picture with double Billy Porters in the background is from the LA Marathon this year (I ran the charity half)! The race was moved up a week to accommodate the Oscars, so they gave us a "red carpet experience" mid race 🥲. If nothing else it gave me a great backdrop for Rex's glamour walk.

It’s a belated @bullybookclub review day! I was so proud of myself for reading BOTH books early but then I went and slacked on posting 😅. Well, Rex was so excited to come talk about these books that he flew here to Ecuador to visit Mirador de Guápulo! Swipe to see how beautiful this overlook is! Haters will say it’s Photoshop but my real furends know the truth 😜.

This month we had two books to read - Monday’s Not Coming and A Love Song for Ricki Wilde.

I loved every part of Monday’s Not Coming except for the twist at the end. I just thought the book didn’t need the twist. It truly was a gripping story overall and so heart wrenching. 4 stars for me on this one.

The second book, A Love Song for Ricki Wilde, was not my favorite. I really loved every character and all of the history except for the male lead. I just found him to be rather dull even though I think he was supposed to be the most unique character overall. 3 stars for me on this one.

火马年快乐! Happy Year of the Fire Horse! We celebrated by going horseback riding up a volcano in Ecuador 🔥🐎. Don't worry it was very safe; the last time this volcano erupted was in 2002 and it was cool to hike on volcanic soil. After our ride we befriended the fire/rescue dog in the café because why not. by @rex.on.insta

Belated Happy Valentine's Day! I spent the day getting to know sweet Selma Plum and Sugar Bean (don't worry, Rex still got lots of love when I got back home). We went for a nice long walk together and even made new friends with @newtricksdogfood!

Last November, our long-time furend Sprout (@philosophycards_)'s pup and soulmate, passed away 😭. He was the best little guy and we miss him so so much. Swipe to the last three slides to see pictures of his pack walks with Rex, kisses with me, and the most beautiful memorial picture commissioned from @bepositiveartist (@callmemaebyspaniel's mom).

It's very clear that Sprout sent his mom a Christmas gift of these two wonderful girls who needed rescuing from the shelter after having been overbred and abandoned. His big brother love is looking down on us (although tbh his grumpy old man would've hated Sugar Bean's puppy energy 😂)

We'll always miss Sprout, but it was great getting to meet his new sisters and send them and his mom all the love for Valentine's Day 🫶🏼 Hope everyone here hugged their loved ones extra tight yesterday! taken in Santa Barbara, California by @rex.on.insta

Merry Christmas, furends 🫶🏼🎄🎅🏻!! This was Rex's first time getting to join us for Christmas at the in-laws' house so this was an exciting event 🤩. We were all on our best behavior in the hopes that he'll be invited back again in the future! 🤞🏼
