$130,000 in grants and scholarships paid to the University of Louisville later…. I graduated college completely debt-free, independently, self-sufficiently, at 22 years-old

Those who know me are aware of how big of a deal this is to me, but those who don’t aren’t as privy. College is hard for everyone, but college for me included a lot of experiences that I did not sign up for. I knew I would have to be on my own taking care of myself, but I had to become an adult in ways that very few I know had to.
Not only did I cover every cent of my education completely independently, but it was done without putting myself into any sort of debt, while consistently working multiple jobs, and holding a steady GPA.
Not everyone gets the opportunity to obtain higher education, therefore I am even more grateful for this opportunity. Growing up extremely far from wealthy, watching my mom battle health issues for my entire life, having to give up my dream of moving away for college due to being unable to afford it, and many more challenges all gave me the resilience that I couldn’t have graduated without. That resilience and those experiences have made me into the social worker that I am, and they will continue to make me into the social worker that I want to become. No one should have to give up their dream, their car, their home, their health, or their lives due to the inability to afford it. That’s why I’m a social worker.

Always with love,
