this week was the end of an era
10 years of my life that I dedicated to this sport. From the time the entire game was hitting off a tee up until it was just part of our warm up I enjoyed the many memories I have made. I’m not gonna say I loved every second, but looking back on it now I know that I’m gonna miss it more than anything.
If you know me you know the blood sweat and many many tears I poured into this game. I could never get into my head that it was a “game of failure” until now. In the moment it felt like I failed a lot more than I succeeded between all the pitches I rolled over, balls I misjudged, and weak pop ups I hit. But looking back on it now I can see how much I truly did succeed. I can see this not just from the banners on the barn, the stats on GameChanger, or the program we helped build, but from the memories that will last me a lifetime and the bonds between coaches and friends it helped build. Let alone the life lessons I learned along the way.
To my incredible coaches that got me where I am today, I thank you. Your belief in me, constant understanding, and many hours that you put in have made me the player and person I am today. Thanks for dealing with me no matter what and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of coaches to grow up with.
To my teammates, whether we have been playing together for years or just a few months you all impacted me greatly. We were a family and always will be. You guys picked me up when I needed and brought out the best versions of me. All of the fun we had between the games and stuff outside of the sport help me realize why I started in the first place.
So as I tie up my cleats, I leave so proud of the years and hours I put into this sport and all that it has taught me. I couldn’t have asked for a better week to end this incredible journey. Thanks again to everyone who made it worth it.
