MS in Biomedical Sciences Program at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Helping students strengthen their med school applications.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Since we recently made our 100th post, it seems fitting to reintroduce BMS!

BMS students have taken the basic pre-reqs for med school (with around a 3.4 undergrad science GPA and 504-505 MCAT), and have many of the outside the classroom experiences needed to apply to medical school, but they aren’t quite yet competitive in the application process.

The BMS curriculum offers rigorous, graduate level courses. It begins by teaching academic success skills and having students take courses that require them to practice those skills. Over the course of the ten months, the curriculum has a few points where the pace and depth increases. At those moments, our students utilize the advising, tutoring, and faculty support to meet that challenge.

We also provide extensive medical school application support, so the goal for most BMS students is to graduate from our program with a masters degree and at least one medical school acceptance. by @rfums_bms

Beginning the spring and summer prior to BMS orientation, we work with incoming students offering support on all parts of the medical school application process. This includes feedback if there are parts of the application that could use strengthening, such as engaging in more volunteering or service.

BMS students submit their AMCAS application the summer prior to BMS, so during that time, we offer online workshops and individualized feedback in preparing the personal statement, activity descriptions, and secondary responses. We encourage BMS students to apply to a mix of medical schools that fit them, which we call parallel planning.

Not that they need it, but best of luck to BMS students as they study this weekend for the second (and final) exam in Foundations of Clinical Anatomy on Monday! Voices of Practice is a virtual, monthly series that gives prospective students at all stages of the application process an opportunity to connect with our community.

Sessions include a general RFU and resources overview and an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about your programs, experiences, and our RFU community through a Q&A.

This series serves as an opportunity to share your voice (panelists) with prospective students, as they gather information to make an informed decision about RFU and navigate the graduate school process.

To volunteer, simply scan the QR code or visit the link in our bio—we’d love to have you join us!

Every BMS student receives professional headshot photographs.

The waiting area has a mirror to help students double check how they look.

RFU’s professional photographer adjusts the lighting based on height.

He also helps students feel comfortable with their pose.

Then three photos are taken.

Students can review and pick which one they like (or reshoot if they prefer!)

Students will get their final photo emailed to them in a few weeks. University photographer prepares behind the camera to take a headshot photo of a female student by @rfums_bms

Today in PHS seminar, students practiced giving interview responses and feedback to each other on those responses. This is one in a series of interview preparation sessions, which will include extensive one-on-one interview practice with PHS faculty before the guaranteed interviews with CMS!

Current students, remember just a couple months ago at orientation, when you were first learning each other’s names?

Keep everyone in mind as you form your study groups for biochem and CMCB! Having peer support for content review, pretend teaching the material, and someone else to explain difficult concepts is a big part of the teamwork that makes BMS special! by @rfums_bms

One of the BMS alum tutors, Sivan Leibovici (BMS Class of 2026) gives an overview of how tutoring can help any student in BMS learn content on a deeper level, increasing preparation for the combined exams. What she shares is typical of what BMS students say about how tutoring helped them.
