Ready to learn how AI fits into your experience at university, and why understanding it matters? ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿค–

'Making Sense of AI & Learning' is a 3-part in-person workshop series taking place across the Fall 2026 - Winter 2027 semesters at the RGASC! Join Dr. Sarah Seeley to explore how generative AI works, the ethics of AI in academics, how AI tools can support learning without replacing it, and more.

The first workshop in the series, 'How AI Works & Why it Matters' explores the fundamentals of generative AI, including how it works, what it can and canโ€™t do, and why it matters in higher education and beyond. There will be opportunities for active learning through predicting AI outputs and evaluating AI capabilities.

๐Ÿ“… When? Wednesday, October 7 from 11:00am - 12:15pm.
๐Ÿซ Where? At the RGASC, MN3251

Please fill out the registration form* in our bio to indicate your intent to attend any or all of the workshops in this series! ๐Ÿ”—

See you there, #uoftmississauga! ๐Ÿ‚

This session takes the Blackwood Gallery's Lines, Pattern, Action exhibition as an entry point for noticing a familiar colonial binary in our own classrooms: which forms of knowledge we treat as rigorous scholarship, and which we discount as craft, anecdote, or supplement. The exhibition artists inherited that same distinction in their own training and later refused it, building work that treats ancestral knowledge as equally legitimate and rigorous as scientific data. Moving through the gallery and drawing from the artworks, we'll reflect on whose knowledge our courses highlight and value.

- Recognize a hierarchy between "legitimate" and "discounted" knowledge at work in teaching practices

- Identify possibilities to incorporate the Blackwood's exhibitions as course content

- Reflect on ways the galleryโ€™s current, past and future exhibits might support, extend, or productively complicate teaching practices
