My new website is now live.
It’s simple.
I like simple.
It’s a mix of everything I am, which is far from simple.
So, it’s a simple website for less-than-simple ideas.
If you want help bringing one to life, simply get in touch.

Thank you.

It’s all FUN AND PAINS.

DNF’d. Again. But that’s okay.

Just a mere 70 miles in before piercing pain and general unpleasantness befell me. The ‘sensible’ choice to stop was hard but necessary, just in case any unknown damage was being incurred.

Despite disappointment, I had a great time on the Thames Path running with
@derrickgoesrunning and a random corgi dog (for a few meters).

Dastardly diversions and pitch-black, mist filled fields are always better when the running company (run-pany?) is top-notch. So pleased he was able to overcome his own race wobbles to power through to the finish (Derrick, not the corgi). Absolutely legendary running.

I will be back next year, a little older and none the wiser, but I’ll try again to cross the line. On to the next one…

D.N.F

I wasn’t gonna make a post about my Thames Path 100 experience because I didn’t finish the race. No medal, no ‘justified’ race photos, nothing worthy to Instagram - just mud, sweat and proverbial tears but after a little thinking I felt there were things to say.

Social media maybe mostly sunshine and rainbows but real life isn’t and that’s sometimes far more meaningful.

"The sweet is never as sweet without the sour"

Am I annoyed, yeah. Frustrated, sure. I’m also damn pleased with my effort.

Rain turned the Thames trails into b@stard muddy mayhem. A f@cked up slip and slide I navigated at night by torchlight and in doing so hurt my foot / ankle (fankle / foonkle? 🤷🏻‍♂️)

I’m a pretty resilient fellow. I’ve run through pain. I’ve run through injury (even when I shouldn’t have) but at about 90 miles I knew I had to stop for the greater good.

So near, so far, sh*t happens. Yet…

It’s the longest distance I’ve EVER done. I aced that run until it went sideways (by my own standards). My legs felt great, nutrition was on point. A few early wobbles I overcame using primarily Marmite, peanut butter and a hint of jam (not all at once)

I spent many a marvellous mile with @derrickgoesrunning until he had his own issues to contend with and later on met @leyruns to share the trail with. My feet maybe sore and swollen but it was glorious in its own demented way and for that I am thankful.

I still remember when I couldn’t even run around the block without gasping for air. Now, I KNOW I can run 100 miles, it just wasn’t to be - this time.

Even after all this I still feel ridiculously unfit. I still don’t think I’m a good ‘runner’. I still don’t really know what the hell I’m actually doing out there half the time but I must be doing something right and sometimes you just have to remind yourself of how far you’ve come.

D.N.F - DO NOT FORGET.

So, in conclusion… I’m going back there next year. F@ck that course. It owes me 10 miles. X

CLOSE

An odd apocalyptic relationship tale of regret, reflection, realisation and resolution.

My 'little' lockdown project that got a lot bigger. One hundred and fifteen pages of my random nonsense and the most nonsense I’ve ever written... in one go...that semi-makes sense... and is slightly humorous. A labour of love, loathing and a lot of seconding guessing.

Now, out into the world you go…

100k… is a long way.

I won a place for the @thresholdtrailseries_ Race To The Stones about two months before race day and ideally would have liked a bit more time to prepare. Luckily(?), I had a couple of marathons (Edinburgh & Brighton Trail) to aid my training and the ongoing support and superb sessions with @frontierlondon

The race itself was ridiculously hot. The sun was brutal and the Ridgeway has very little shade. Hills rolled and running was hard on some rather
rocky bastard terrain. The scenery was beautiful but I was primarily focussed forward. I refused to look at my phone throughout as I didn’t want to know the time (I also don’t run with a watch) and as a result took only one picture, at sunset.

I finished in just over 16hrs - bruised, burnt but unbroken. Crashed for a few hours, ate all the food and watched the sunrise over the finish line.

In conclusion - caffeine is king and marmite sandwiches are godly post 50k.

On to the next run. X

Edinburgh. I ran a marathon.

Great scenery. The bastard sun shone but I got it done. I sprinted the finish and was left with a dubious sun tan and a medal.

My enthusiasm for road races knows no bounds as evidenced by my post run portrait.

Onto the next run 👊🏻💥

A beautiful 32k on the North Downs Way with @maverickrunproject , led by @jayzruns

Merstham to Otford featuring sunshine, Spitfires, wild garlic, questionable cows & some most excellent people. Glorious.

A rather run-derful #sundayrunday at the @runthroughuk Victoria Park Half Marathon to kick start the running year made everything (13.1) miles better. X
