A 1936 Royal Barry Wills home that was carefully and thoughtfully enlarged and restored by @patrickahearnarchitect …Royal Barry Wills FAIA (August 21, 1895 – January 10, 1962) was an American architect and author. He was a master of the Cape Cod type house, particularly its 1930s–1950s Colonial Revival incarnation. Patrick talks about the English-style home’s architectural provenance, pleasing scale and materiality, and sense of nostalgia that made it well worth preserving. The goal of the restoration and renovation was to channel Wills in order to apply his thinking and aesthetic to an expanded home able to accommodate a larger program. taken in Massachusetts by @rhbirdwell

I’ve meant to post this house for a loooong time. @bermanhornstudio Maria Berman and Brad Horn, a husband and wife architecture team, built this home in Vinalhaven Maine for themselves and for all seasons. I’ve always thought it was sooo cool. They describe it this way, “The house is a contemporary reinterpretation of the New England connected farmhouse,” the studio added.

“Along its length, the house transforms from cape to saltbox to create the traditional ‘Ell’ found in historic buildings in the area,” the studio added.” The one-storey house called Little Peek is located on a rocky cliff complete with a steep path down to a dock for enjoying Penobscot Bay on the western side.

“Perched atop a Rhyolite outcropping overlooking one of the island’s many coves, the project is named for its unique siting, which offers only glimpses of the house as one climbs a meandering footpath from the water,” said the studio. From Little to BIG and all charming in the Hamptons. We are here in Bridgehampton for a long weekend catching our breath from crazy life. I’ve hit the place in life where I’m very focused on what I’ve accomplished, what I’ve missed, what do I even care about at this point, and the long list of what I want to tackle. One thing I’d like to tackle is a house with plate glass windows. Weird, I know. A house with a pool. A house with a view. A house looking at a blue ocean or bay.. we think and talk a lot about where to go to get away from the cold in the winter —I have no idea. And I can’t seem to feel strongly about any one place outside of California but it’s so complicated. Anyway, Sunday rant while sitting at my kitchen table between two poodles—I can’t complain. This started out as a post focused on rattan with Marella Agnelli’s room in Marrakesh and sort of meandered through a set of beautiful personal feeling spaces (one with Lulu Lytle’s dog, Panther) and @dsdixonarchitect ‘s beautiful island project. 29 years ago today—I gave birth to a 1.5 lb baby at just under 25 weeks. It was the most terrifying experience of my life and I remember praying so hard and visualizing every vein, artery, organ and whatever else possible healing and growing so she would survive. @elizabeth_boylan — you are the biggest survivor I know and I’m eternally grateful that you’re a fighter. Today this beauty is an incredible therapist and moving into a new apartment in Manhattan and starting a new chapter. I could not be more proud of you and thank you for being here with me on this journey of life and living. It turned out to be a beautiful day. I’m grateful today. I worked really hard to get this place back to where it needed to be and it paid off. When @bronsonvanwyck texted me months ago to ask if I would go to Ibiza for a party—the obvious answer was YES! and the truth is I would have gone anywhere Bronson asked. I don’t know if I ever would have journeyed to Ibiza otherwise and had no expectations of the island but what a wonderful surprise as it was waaayyyy more laid back than I realized and possessed a divine culture of celebration and good vibes. Back to @pharaohsball .. from soup to nuts the idea behind this journey was beyond fun. What the hell would I wear? @balmain for me and Camille in @johannaortizofficial and I now have a new soul sister in the brilliant, excepting, adorable @therichardsinnott @sinnottnewyork who spent a lot of time helping us with our vintage jewels. You absolutely must go see him in Manhattan bc you’ll find amazing things and it’s fun. @plumecostumes gave us lots of great advice, patience and encouraged me to drop the white chic conservative caftan and live a little (requiring hysterically taping body parts). We stayed until the very end of @pharaohsball bc who wanted it to end except my feet? I’ve put on a few events in my day 😉 and to even have the space to dream the way @bronsonvanwyck @mimivanwyck @vanwyckvanwyck dreamed of this experience is hard to comprehend. From the production that was perfection, the cadence and energy highs and lows, the food, the impeccable service and the sense that something fun and exciting was coming at any moment..was all just brilliant. I loved seeing my friends @stevengambrel @designerjamiedrake @sandamayzaw @robertstilin @celerie etc in all their garb I loved having my little dancing queen @camilleboylan at my side. Joy is important, people who know how to manufacture and create joy are real artists and need to be celebrated and honoured. That is Bronson and I’m grateful to know him not just to get a coveted invite but to learn from him amd to experience his joy making. Happy bday to @mimivanwyck and thank you to all of you and to the Van Wycks who are adorable and clearly did a great job with their kids.
