Summer is really low maintenance. She just needs 100 percent of your attention 100 percent of the time.💅

Jack looks so cute with his fur grown out, but he's so full of burs. 🙈

I'm heartbroken to share that Jackie passed away suddenly last night. She was fine when I put the chickens to bed at dusk yesterday and by 2:00 am when I did a late night check, she was gone. I don't know what happened. I took her body to UC Davis for a necropsy, which will hopefully give some answers.

I'm comforted to know that Jackie never had a bad day in her entire 5.5 years of life. She spent all her time, from her first day out of the egg to her last, eating snacks, hanging out with her sisters, sitting on my shoulders, digging up the yard, and generally raising hell.

I took her body outside to her favorite spot in the yard and let her free range with her sisters one last time this morning. Her loss leaves a devastating hole in our flock and my heart.

Fly high and free, Jackie! 🌈🐔❤️‍🩹 by @rhdsamanda

I really neglected my grid in 2025, so here's a holiday puppy portrait. 🙂🖼
