Last Sunday’s @bitchiestbrunch at @hobanaheim was a show for the ages. Two Drag Race juggernauts headlined a stellar cast of five queens in addition to our MC, the legendary Reverend Lawanda Jackson. Indeed, the Gods of Rock’n’Roll blessed us with visits from Bowie, Tina, Pink, and Marilyn in iconic performances that left the audience breathless for more (our audiences are the best!). Hello! I couldn’t be prouder to announce my position as official hypeman for Palm Springs’ very own @bitchiestbrunch It’s a Vegas-style drag spectacular coming at you now in Orange County at the @hobanaheim We have elaborate costumes, dance numbers, and stuntwork (watch out for those flying queens!). The show started in 2018 and is firmly rooted in drag traditions around the country in its deep ties to the 80’s New York ballroom scene, the pageant circuit, and opulent Las Vegas spectacles. Indeed, to see the show is to partake in history. Our MC, the Reverend Lawanda Jackson, is a legend in her own right. A double aneurysm-stroke survivor, her story of coming back from the brink of death will transform and inspire you. She heads up an insanely talented cast of queens including @auroraxforte @luna_la_fierce @xox_just_brooklyn . Each have their own superpower and way of engaging the audience. Our choreographer extraordinaire @antoniomartinezla has too many credits to list. He dances to his own law of gravity. Every show this cast gives 110% and they are scrappy as hell. I’m especially excited to announce this Sunday we have guest headliner Drag Race/All Star alum Miss Coco Montrese @theonlycocomontrese taking the stage. This will be one for the record books! I turned 43 this week. I didn’t feel much like celebrating this year. The past twelve months are a blur and I admittedly didn’t do a great job of keeping up with the lot of you. Im still not sure what function Instagram serves in my life, or how I’m supposed to use it. I don’t want to participate in this whole “influencer” culture where celebrities/“lifestyle experts” target your insecurities in shameless efforts to rip you off. Nor do I want to be a part of anything that makes being wealthy “cool,” per se. So much of IG is just about making rich people look cool; taking your money, energy, attention and not giving you anything useful for it. I myself try to be amusing, if not useful. Many of you don’t know this, but prior to selling real estate I was an extremely competent shopgirl. And people from all walks of life would set appointments with me to help them select, often intuit, a present for their loved ones. Gift giving is one of my love languages (I was born for it - a Nicholas born on St Nicholas day!). I like my gifts to be something timeless, playful and a little unexpected. A gesture that will turn a moment into an event, take you some place else, or possibly show you something new about the world or yourself. I also don’t think they should cost a fortune. So in the spirit of the holiday, I give you Nick’s very last minute gift guide (for $50 or less). Tonight I’ll start with my personal favorite - the heirloom Christmas ornament. It’s not practical at all but who doesn’t delight in a little piece of art that’s both nostalgia and fantasy?
Slides 1-3: Jinglenog ornaments. Jinglenog is a mother/daughter-owned company out of New York whose beguiling ornaments render traditional Christmas iconography into something like children’s storybook creations from the 60’s. They look like sketches or paintings and have expressive faces or a movement about them. They feel animated, alive, like they fell out of a lost Bass and Rankin production. Hello friends. It’s been a whole year since I’ve posted on my grid, one of the hardest of my adult life. Words alone cannot express my gratitude to you that helped me through it, my earth angels. Looking up at the haloed moon tonight, I can’t help but feel a renewed sense of wonder and optimism about the future. I felt so lucky to even catch it. They say I was was something in those formative years. These are all the photos of my childhood I have in my possession. There are more out there, I’m sure. But there are times I feel like a ghost in my own life. I’ve seen and done a lot, lost a lot, and there’s no record of it, except for my own memories. And there are days when I notice those fading too. As I got older I would deliberately avoid having my photo taken and now I wish I wasn’t so determined to be unseen, undetected. I wish I had something to hold to remind myself what life was like when the world didn’t seem so… wrong. And life itself was ripe with possibility. I tell people half-jokingly that I live in dog years, but it’s true. For whatever reason, fate has pitched my life to me at warp speed, to the point where I’ve had so many lives, with no record of them. And in these moments of reflection I feel like I’m just an apparition haunting an empty room somewhere, way past my bedtime. Good night. by @rhinocholas

Peek-a-boo! Some excitement on the trail this morning. One of them actually started to walk towards me so I had to take off. There were at least three of them and they appeared youngish. They caught me by surprise as they were pretty far down the mountain, not far from valley floor. Fairly late in the morning too. And they are NOT afraid of us. Im sure they appreciate the drop in temperature. by @rhinocholas

View from my office window. I’ve been in the desert almost 10 years now, and only recently started appreciating the beauty here. Most locals post their nature pics regularly and they’re more impressive than mine, so I usually don’t bother. But this caught my eye and I thought I’d start sharing more about what my life looks like. by @rhinocholas
