Thank you for helping us build a future for rhinos!
Today, we’re looking beyond immediate threats to the long-term solutions rhinos need to thrive.

Poaching isn't the only life-and-death challenge rhinos face. As recovering populations outgrow limited reserves—like the greater one-horned rhinos in Nepal—a lack of safe habitat leads to territorial conflict and friction with neighboring communities. At the same time, anti-poaching efforts rely on strong legal systems to ensure traffickers face real consequences.

Through WCN’s Rhino Recovery Fund, your support powers these vital, forward-thinking investments: expanding safe territory, strengthening wildlife laws, facilitating collaborative collective impact.
We are so grateful for your support and the entire RRF community working together to build the safe, expansive future rhinos deserve ❤️

Incoming! The proverbial rhino is out of the bag: BRREP recently completed a historic translocation of black rhinos from South Africa to Botswana. After two months of quarantine, a 36 hour road trip and a few days adjusting in bomas in Botswana, the rhinos have been released and settling into their new home. This translocation has doubled Botswana's black rhino population.

We accomplish more for rhinos when we work collaboratively with groups protecting species that share the same habitat. By pooling resources across WCN’s Wildlife Funds, we can tackle large-scale, systemic threats that impact entire ecosystems. That means co-granting, regional partnerships, and working across borders.

🔸 Cross-Fund Impact: Co-granting through funds like the Rhino Recovery Fund and Pangolin Crisis Fund allows us to support holistic solutions that protect multiple threatened species at once.

🔸 Disrupting "Zero-Dollar Tours": Unscrupulous travel operations use ultra-low-cost tours across China, Laos, and Vietnam to manipulate tourists into buying illegal wildlife products—generating up to $400 million in illicit trade.

🔸 A Regional Solution: RRF, PCF, and the Elephant Crisis Fund have joined forces on a grant to the Wildlife Conservation Society to dismantle this regional network by reforming cross-border tourism, altering consumer demand, and strengthening multi-nation law enforcement.

Save and share to support collaborative, landscape-wide solutions for wildlife protection!

Did you know rhinos are a keystone species?
By grazing, wallowing, and dispersing seeds across vast distances, they shape the ecosystem for hundreds of other plants and animals. When rhinos thrive, entire wild landscapes thrive.

Stopping illegal trafficking takes more than anti-poaching patrols; it requires cutting-edge tech, legal enforcement, and community action. Here’s how local partners are disrupting illegal trade networks across the globe:

🦏 Education of Nature in Vietnam: Over 250,000 online supporters are fighting the illegal wildlife trade by actively reporting online wildlife crime. This community effort generates an average of 11 new crime cases every day, working directly with law enforcement to prosecute traffickers and push illegal rhino horn sales off social media.

🦏 Rooikat Trust in Namibia: To combat sophisticated poaching syndicates around Etosha National Park, @rooikatconservation is upgrading border road CCTV networks with AI-powered license plate recognition. By monitoring critical access routes, this technology helps intercept poachers before they enter the park and provides key data to prosecute crime rings.

From Nepal to Zimbabwe to Zambia, long-term rhino recovery requires community action, habitat expansion, and secure landscapes. Swipe through to see how local partners are building a safer future for rhinos:

🇳🇵 Nepal @greenhoodnepal: Local communities in Chitwan raised their voices against harmful development, sparking a national government investigation to protect greater one-horned rhino habitats.

🇿🇼 Zimbabwe @gonarezhou Conservation Trust: For the first time in over a century, white rhino calves were born in Gonarezhou! The team is now working to double their protected area over the next five years to give this growing population room to roam.

🇿🇲 Zambia @frankfurt.zoological.society: Critical fence maintenance in North Luangwa National Park resulted in zero black rhino breakouts this past year, keeping a thriving population safe so it can help restore rhinos across Africa.

Protecting rhinos takes more than emergency action—it takes a future-focused plan.
While the Rhino Recovery Fund funds short-term measures like dehorning to stop poachers right now, long-term survival requires more than constant triage.
To help all five rhino species truly recover, we must secure safe habitats with enough space to roam, alongside strong legal frameworks that hold traffickers accountable worldwide. From expanding protected reserves to closing legal loopholes from Namibia to Laos, we’re investing in long-term solutions.
World Rhino Day is almost here. Stay tuned to see how forward-thinking conservation is building the future rhinos deserve. by @rhinorecoveryfund
