Hello to all incoming and current URI students! We hope your summer is going as well as ours. In case you don’t know us and this is your first time seeing one of our posts, we are the URI Club Crew Team, and we are looking for new members! We are a student led rowing organization that competes in many highly competitive races throughout the year, and we build a strong team culture every step along the way. The bonds we forge through trials and hardship are unmatched, and last a lifetime. Every year we push ourselves to the limit(and then some) in order to win races and be the best we can be. If you’re interested in joining a tight knit team that pushes each other to be the very best they can be, then I promise that you will find no place better than with us. Please fill out the form linked in our bio and we will get back to you ASAP! by @rhodeislandcrew

URI Crew is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved teammate, Riley. Riley had been battling against cancer since January. Through the past 8 months, her untemperable resilience and optimism revealed itself even greater than before. Riley’s hope was immovable, even as an unstoppable force tried to undermine it. Cancer never even came close to taking that from her.

Riley was infamously cranky when she woke up for our egregiously early morning practices, but once she stepped in the boathouse, she was a model rower. In her freshman year, her and her novice four dominated, clearing each race comfortably in first place. They took gold at Patriot Cup, Dad Vails, NERCs, and ACRA, our largest, most competitive, and final regatta of the year. Her sophomore year, when the women’s team grew enough to race an eight, Riley was at the helm in stroke seat. She was so steady and reliable that watching her row almost made it look like rowing isn’t the most difficult, painful thing in the world. Almost. But as smooth as she was a rower, she was even better as a teammate. On indoor winter days when the workout plan involved us seeing God on the erg, Riley was a beacon of strength. Most people use the precious remainder of their breath during rest intervals to recover, but of course, Riley was never most people. She’d rather use hers to encourage her suffering teammates. If the room was a battlefield, Riley was the flag bearer. Her impact on the boathouse will live on in the people she inspired.

Those that were lucky enough to call Riley a friend will never forget her buoyant attitude, her ability to light up a room just by being in it, and the privilege of seeing her do the worm. She liked birds and flowers more than anyone I’ve ever met, always kept her house stocked with grandma candy, and was good with dogs and kids. Riley was like if the color pink was made into a person, and then given the keys to a black Cadillac straight out of The Godfather. Her warmth and approachability were unmatched, except if she was critiquing your execution of the robot, then she was ruthless. She will be loved forever and forgotten never by the team we shared. Rest in paradise, Riley. by @rhodeislandcrew

Last time Dan made the leaderboard, record holder Atticus told him to, quote, “keep on climbing”. Well, Dan did exactly that, right over Atti’s third place 5k record to take the all time bronze for himself. But the season for record reaping has not ended. There’s still too much dry marker on that record board. Dan’s coming for that top spot, and the rest of the boys are homing in on the board. More records to come, both on the erg and at the regattas. Stay tuned.

Yesterday, your URI Rams competed for the very first time at the Head of the Housatonic regatta in Shelton, CT. Being our first time, we started at the back of the pack, but our rowers were not happy to stay there. Starting the day off strong, our Mens 1V8 battled their way through their event and beat out half the boats in their event, placing above almost every other club boat. In the next event our novice men did us proud by securing a 4th place spot in their first ever race, placing them right next to the podium and making them hungry for more. Right after them we launched our three Men’s Varsity Fours, who put down some serious numbers in their event and secured some great placement. Our Women’s 1V4 performed excellently, and beat out many of the other club boats that came against them. Saving the best for last, our Women’s Novice 4 were the first to bring home hardware this season, securing first place in their very first race! Our crews rowed their best, and are ready to train hard until our final regatta of the season, Head of the Fish! #rhodyrams #uricrew #headofthehousatonic by @rhodeislandcrew

Our fall season is off to a strong start ! Yesterday, your URI Rams competed in their first regatta, the Head of the Snake. Our crews rowed their hearts out and were not disappointed with the results. Our women’s 1v4 opened on a high note, beating out all other club boats and holding their own against several D1 teams. Our mens 8+ did similarly well, beating out almost every other club team and putting down some serious numbers. Lastly, our mens 4+ performed excellently in their first race together, scoring a top 10 spot despite never racing together before. While our crews are proud of their performances, they are hungrier than ever and ready to bring home some hardware next Saturday at the Head of the Housatonic! by @rhodeislandcrew

As a club team, we oftentimes don’t have the privilege of going to many regattas each season.
That’s why when we do, we train as hard as possible to be ready. With the Head of the Snake this Saturday, and our other races coming up this month, we’re putting in more time on the water and the erg than ever. Our team is ready to race and ready to win. by @rhodeislandcrew

With the handwriting of a 6-year old and the strength of a wild boar, big (sophomore) man Dan Hallas cracked the all-time top 10 leaderboard by three whole places on the 5k this morning, knocking off old man Raymond (26’). A couple of the boys got to thinking the leaderboard could use some more new blood, and now the noses have gone to the grindstone, the trail is warm, and the ergs are calling. A new day for URI Crew. Stay tuned.
